Your whole response is just
Trump does something, it's his fault. Trump does nothing, it's his fault. :dunce:

This virus is here, steps are being taken to limit how fast it spreads and that includes importing additional cases via air travel to Europe. In addition to the Fed; State, county, and local agencies/entities are already taking actions they see fit. I think it's already too late for a travel ban (BTW closing the borders worked great for Russia), but I'm not opposed to taking the steps deemed necessary. Not sure why you feel otherwise and in fact, seem contradictory to your "shut down big local gatherings" you posted yesterday.
At this point the government response has to be better than it was when it was saying " It'll be fine once the weather warms up." Trump is in an incredibly difficult position having to make incredibly difficult decisions. I don't envy him and I sincerely hope that with Congress, they respond quickly. It sounds like he is finally taking this thing serious. The 30 day ban on foreigners could really help stem the tide. I just hope it isn't too late.

I hope he has some good advisers that are willing to listen to science. Dr. Fauchi (sp?) sounds like he means business. I like that guy. :thumb:
I pretty much agree with everything you said (imagine that :D ). Also agree on Fauci. CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield and Fauci (director the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) gave testimony this morning before the House on why the travel ban now to Europe, and why the UK was excluded.
-70% new cases from Europe, Italy France, Germany the most.
-Couldn't just do Italy, because it (the EU) was like one country.
-U.K. was left out was because there was a difference between the ease of transportation between the EU countries, and the U.K.
-of the 35+ states that have infections, 30 of them have gotten them recently from a travel related case from Europe.

Fauci on the testing failure (edit, see Jelly already posted):
"The system is not really geared to what we need right now -- what you are asking for. This is a failing. It is a failing. Let’s admit it. The idea of anybody getting it easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we’re not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes. But we’re not..... from the beginning, it was not set up to do that. The system was geared for individual doctor and patient. What we're going through now transcends that."

They border China to boot. The Russians know how to seal their borders, and do early travel restrictions.

It helps when nobody lives there. China-Russia border only in the east part of Russia.

catbooster wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2020 8:50 am This Covid thing could have a big silver lining if a bunch of people who have it would go to DC while highly contagious. Wipe their nose on their sleeve, cough a lot. Take a tour of the Capitol building, shake hands with as many congressmen and senators as possible, get a tour of the White House, etc.

Lots of the longest serving members of Congress are in the older age group where covid is more deadly. It could be like randomized quasi-term limits if they all caught it.

How entertaining would it be if all of the presidential candidates over the age of 70 had to be replaced in a few months? And the presidential race had to start over from scratch with only 5 months to go before the election?
Tours of the Capital Building are closed indefinitely.

As we look at other countries and :suspicious: at their numbers, our numbers will become :suspicious: as well.
Much of the problem in our system is the desire to be accurate, consistent, and maintain records. This will soon fall apart as the need to have more testing performed expands.

I'm not sure you could sell the no spectator thing for kid's sporting events.

Schools are now cancelling spring sports.

There's going to be no tournament if there's no schools to play in it. I imagine the NCAA will cancel the dance today.

So a guy I work with went to Seattle last week and arrived back in NC two days ago feeling sick. The powers that be had told him to get medical clearance and he showed up yesterday with an MD's note. Called back a couple of hours later and said that the state had told him to self quarantine for a week. I'm not nervous about contracting it , but this is how duh virus can easily spread.

Someone on the JMU board who's SIL is an MD passed this along to him. Good concise read on why not to panic, in relative layman's terms for folks without a medical/scientific background.
