I'll have a 2,000 mile trek across the Cascades, Rockies and Great Plains to get to my kids. Long odds but I'd rather go down trying to reach them than live wondering if they made it.CID1990 wrote:Fellas

If you live near a strategic center, I would suggest having your family put together a go bag of essentials to get them (and you) out to a rural area. If grandma lives in a house in the middle of nowhere, I suggest that be your destination. I have mine in NC.
When I say “strategic center” I am not talking about you living beside a Goodyear plant that makes airplane tires… dont flatter yourself. I’m talking about those of us who live in the Delmarva area, near any air force base or major Army fort, any defense companies footprints that actually *make* things, like F-35s or Tomahawk missiles. ANY naval base.
I’m pretty sure Houndawg and klam are safe already but I dont know about the rest of you.

Keystone is in operation, I'm talking about the Keystone XL which will only be transporting foreign oil of very low quality to Texas across the largest aquifer in the nation. Tar sands oil has to be transported at higher pressure guaranteeing more than the usual amount of leakage. Oil is a big deal but not as big a deal as fresh water - I think we can all agree on that.

And I said nothing about what the Keystone XL may or may not do. I commented specifically on the safety record of pipelines. Not many opportunities for an exit strategy. Neither the west or Ukraine are going to be happy by rewarding him with more land. While sanctions can be lifted, the damage they have/will inflict will create instability and take years to unravel. Most of the world has decided to cancel Putin. Dangerous times.
We’re about 15 miles from Fairchild which houses a major refueling wing. Not a juicy target but perhaps strategic?
Good to have a kit ready I suppose. We can be at empty and lower elevation points south in minutes and continue on dirt roads with no traffic to a safer location.

Eh, I didn't think anything of it. But she's already damaged goods, she's basically Dan Quayle at this point, completely unelectable. But the Dems, with their adherence to identity politics, might find it impossible to run anyone but her in 2024. GOP just has to avoid running Trump and they'll win at this point. Might be easier said than done though.

Re: The Ukraine Crisis
If it was only just as simple as if the pipeline were in operation or not. However, in the big picture, energy policy is much more than just one pipeline. The current administration has made it very clear that they are in favor of phasing out fossil fuels (not a bad goal, per se) and they are in favor of doing it as quickly as they can. While not a bad goal, everything is in the timing. We're not anywhere close to being able to turn off the oil supply and go all renewables, and we're likely decades away from that. Where the damage to the economy comes in the meantime, and this includes gas prices, is when you advertise that you are anti-fossil fuels to the extent that the current administration has, then you've made any investment in anything related to fossil fuels so unattractive that those business have to turn elsewhere. Therefore capital spend on new drilling dries up, the ability to quickly turn on and off supply goes away, and you generally start to increase gas prices as a result. Throw in an ill-timed war, happening partly because of previous poor performance on the world stage by this administration (and certainly by previous ones, no doubt), and you have a genuine gas price crisis. Plus it starts to make people more aware of the incredibly regressive tax (i.e. hurts poorer people far more than richer people) on gas. Quite the conundrum for the current administration, and largely of their own doing.houndawg wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 6:12 amKeystone is in operation, I'm talking about the Keystone XL which will only be transporting foreign oil of very low quality to Texas across the largest aquifer in the nation. She's proof that we shouldn't have elected officials over the age of 75, and certainly not over the age of 80. She's just there to keep making a fortune for her husband with the insider information a Speaker of the House is more than privy. She would've left after losing the majority in that devastating election in 2010 but it was far too lucrative to leave then. Here we are 12 years later and she's still around.93henfan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:10 amIt's not as odd as Nancy Pelosi excitedly cheering a statement that our military men are dying of cancer at alarming rates from exposure to toxic burn pits.GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 9:49 am

Disaster part 2 really (or 3 I guess, Biden has turned out to be very close to completely incompetent). Elections of 2016, 2020, and if that matchup comes to be, 2024, could rival the 1850's for just horrendous Presidential outcomes.kalm wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:06 amIt’s hard to imagine someone worse than Kamala.
