You kinda missed my point. I know very few adults who continue to smoke pot (regularly) into adulthood. The ones I do know that do are mostly dumbasses (no offense to anyone here) and were the ones who were heavy smokers before. A little bit of the chicken and the egg here.

Something tells me that you're not the type of person who associates with 'those' kind of people who still smoke pot. Or you're not even aware that they still smoke pot because they keep it wrapped up and hidden closed doors (and this crowd is MUCH larger than many people realize).

You know, before I read your post I was thinking about a number of people I know who have been high performers in fields such as engineering and medicine and who also continued to smoke pot. But I must say you've got a lot of guts to post that. The public health and safety Nazis might very well decide to identify you and make you pay. Nothing is more threatening to the mythology they have crafted than instances in which people have been highly successful as well as competent while engaging in the behaviors they have worked so hard to demonize.

I just thought of another example of what a crock the "can't function if you smoke pot" thing is. When I lived in Georgia there was a big news story on a person who had been recognized as statewide "teacher of the year" was later busted for growing marijuana in her home. I moved to Louisiana and. lo and behold, the same thing happened here. Someone who had been recognized as statewide "teacher of the year" was busted for growing pot in their homes.

Just a couple of examples of something I've wondered about. You see these high achieving people busted for pot. You would think that at some point people would begin to wonder about the stuff like the "Partnership for a Drug Free America" commercials that make it seem as though pot is always going to render someone a vegetable.

I mean, if using pot makes one so incapable of functioning, how is it that those two people ended up being recognized as "teacher of the year?" Surely they must've been doing a good job, right?

Off all my college-educated, life-long friends...

...three continued smoking daily throughout their adult lives.

One went from managing a graphic arts design company to, now, selling vinyl windows by appt.

One went from being a radiologist for 7 years, to doing residential landscape maintenance.

The last went from being a Tax Agency supervisor, to living off his daughter's SSI, and eventually, when she became an adult, shifted to welfare for the past decade.

All three lost their "major" career jobs for failing to show up for work.

Another close friend is a controlling partner in a very successful law firm. Another is a senior partner in a large medical practice and surgical center that makes money hand over fist. I can keep going for as long as you want me to. I personally know well over 100 folks with personal incomes well into the six figures and a couple in the seven figures who regularly enjoy a nice fatty or two or three. Your theory is invalid.

General Washington, may he rest in peace, grew what we called "hemp". This sounds very close that. I recall one misadventure when we shared it with the Natives. They were dancing around the fire, talking to the smoke and thinking it was a "spirit!" Oh, the jocularity was incredible.

Whoa!!! Slow down Frances! You are now putting words in my mouth. I never claimed that it improved my brain function or thinking. Quite the contrary actually. There's a reason we used to call it "getting stupid". That's one of the reasons I use it. My brain is running in the red most of the time. I am a high-level type A obsessive compulsive freak with a tendency to way too competitive with my peers. Pot helps me bring it down to a tolerable level every once and awhile. I like being able to turn off and turn on for a few hours. I guess it's a form of self-medicating. I can usually get a similar result with a handful of martinis, but the side effects are much worse.
