Three months into 2025, the United States has surpassed the total number of measles cases in the country for all of last year.

So far in 2025, there have been at least 308 measles cases reported in the United States, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2024, there were 285 measles cases.

COPENHAGEN, March 14 (Reuters) - The United States has reached out to Denmark and other European nations asking if they can export eggs as Americans face surging egg prices, the Nordic country's egg association said on Friday.

The request from the U.S. Department of Agriculture coincides with a raft of new U.S. tariffs on countries, including in Europe, and the threat of more. President Donald Trump has also threatened economic sanctions unless Denmark hands over control of Greenland to the United States.

That part is FAKE NEWS. Egg prices are falling. Granted they need to fall more.

Are you trying to deflect attention from the disconnect between threatening and slapping tariffs on allies out of one side of our mouth and asking "please sir, can you spare some eggs" out of the other?

Why do we have people with the mentality of toddlers making foreign policy decisions?

Farmers face steep losses in the middle of Trump's trade war and funding cuts
“We’re just in such a state of shock. We just don’t really even know how to respond to all this. We thought that this was sacred and really untouchable,” Gilkerson said. “Everyone thinks all farmers voted for this, but we did not vote for this.”

From funding cuts to tariffs, farmers have found themselves caught in the middle of President Donald Trump’s escalation of trade wars and efforts to slash billions of dollars in spending, leaving a growing number now struggling to find markets for their products and facing the risk of steep losses for the year ahead.

Trump has acknowledged the impact his trade policies will have on farmers, telling them in his address to Congress this month that there will be “a little bit of an adjustment period” and that farmers will have to “bear with me again.” When it comes to spending cuts at the Agriculture Department and other agencies, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a CNBC interview this week, the current federal spending levels are unsustainable and there will have to be a “detox period” for the economy as cuts are made.

But farmers across the country — from small organic berry growers in Maine to large-scale hog producers in Iowa — say those policy changes could cripple their businesses if they aren’t resolved soon, wreaking long-lasting damage on the U.S. agriculture industry.

“I think any farmer will tell you that we will take some short-term pain, but do not make this a long-term extended trade war, because that just won’t be good for agriculture or for the country in general,” said Bob Hemesath, an Iowa farmer who grows corn and raises hogs. “I know that this is the way President Trump believes he’s going to create better markets long term. I hope he’s correct. But my fear is that once you lose those markets to other suppliers, it’s very hard to get them back.”
Each cut impacts some Americans. What will be the cumulative impact of the cuts? How many will be impacted? Will it change how they vote in coming elections?

Industries don’t need to be sucking at the govt tit to the tune of tens of billions a year. That includes 30 some billion a year the Fed govt alone spends on agriculture subsidies. A lot of that is to make up for the costs to the farmers of stupid shit Fed govt regulations or the Good Idea Fairy in DC. Subsidizing the mortgage market (Fannie & Freddie), flood insurance, agriculture, education, etc, etc. along with heavy doses of regulations. Whenever the Fed govt gets involved they fuck shit up, costing the taxpayers, and usually the consumers.

I don't disagree but:
  • these people produce something of value and there are benefits to the aid.
  • suddenly shutting off the spigot for everyday joes and janes will impact thousands if not millions of people.
  • it will be interesting to see how that impacts voting in upcoming elections. Will Republicans lose control of the House and/or Senate?
  • why are corporate welfare whores like eloon musk who are also sucking at the gubmit teat being excluded?

We won't get the export markets we've lost back. A few will return, but the world will move on to more reliable partners.

The world is already boycotting American goods, and overall we'll be poorer for a generation or two.

Another question that should be asked is what will be the long term impact of cuts in foreign aid? Will they create more opportunities for China to use Belt & Road to expand it's influence in ways that we'll regret in the future?

trump 0.1 tariffs were smaller in scope, more focused and he didn't waffle back and forth on implementing them.

This time around the tariffs are larger, apply to more goods and he's targeting our biggest trading partners ...
  • Canada: $356.5 billion in US exports / $436.6 billion in US imports
  • China: $150.4 billion in US exports / $536.3 billion in US imports

  • EU: $350.8 billion in US exports / $553.3 billion in US imports

The US has the ability to use tariffs to bully some of these trade partners into concessions but antagonizing them all at the same time is beyond foolish.

Government deficit rose 4% in Trump’s first full month in office, despite DOGE. UBS says the U.S. is slashing confidence, not spending
Elon Musk has framed his cost-cutting initiatives at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as a project that will halve the federal deficit with "competency and trust."

But in February (President Trump's first full month in the Oval Office), data from the Treasury shows, the monthly deficit more than doubled compared to the period prior, now sitting comfortably at more than $1.1 trillion for FY 2025 so far.
Will trump's legacy be one of a trail of broken promises and a ruined economy?

The Trump 1.0 tariffs involved the biggest trading partner of all, China.

Also these countries BT (before Trump) had tariffs on some US industries (ex Canada 200% tariff on US dairy products)..

The ‘waffling’ you speak of is called carrot and stick negotiations. It’s like trying to negotiate a peace deal. Will be shit tons of back and forth before if any implementation.

Lol you’re like the guy who says his guy is ahead in the polls based off one poll, when the majority show the opposite.
Your own link to RCP shows trump's average approval ratings are dropping. He started with a 51.5% approve and 43.0% disapprove (8.5 spread) and now he's at 48.9% approve and 47.5% disapprove (1.4 spread)

Tell me again how his approval ratings aren't dropping?
President Trump Job Approval

RCP Average 8 days later: 47.8% approve, 48.5% disapprove, Spread -0.7

5 of the 8 polls taken in March are negative.

Still early 1st qtr.

FWIW 5 of the last 8 saw their Gallup approval ratings drop their 1st year in office. The 3 exceptions the 2 Bushes and Trump 1 (barely)

The closest thing we’ve had to fascism in our lifetimes: the donks during Covid.
-Arbitrarily forcing some things to shut down, while allowing others to remain open.
-Trying to have people fined or arrested who weren’t wearing a useless mask.
-Setting up Stasi like hotlines for neighbors to snitch on neighbors who were having illegal ‘gatherings’ Your boy Tampon Tim AWOLZ was one of those.
-Banning large gatherings unless it was in the name of social justice like the BLM/ANTIFA riots.
-Biden admin trying to have govt and private workers fired who didn’t get these experimental shots.
-Telling people they needed to carry around cards saying they got these shots.“Papers Please!”

Oh, and here’s Biden going next level banana republic calling for his #1 chief political rival, who he’s running against, to be locked up. Straight out of the fascist playbook.

And donks during the 1st 2 weeks of Trumps presidency openly calling for violence.

Now who are the fascists again?
Another one. There are so many recent calls for violence from elected Donks. It’s like they want a Civil War.

Chuck Schumer Calls Republicans 'Bastards,' but Deep Down He Knows He Got Played on the CR

…..This time, they aren’t just mad at Speaker Mike Johnson or House Republicans. They’re mad at themselves, because deep down, they know they got played. And they have no one to blame but their own party.

The continuing resolution that just passed isn’t some groundbreaking conservative victory—it’s a strategic move that sets the stage for something much bigger—like keeping government spending flat (no major increases), blocking funding for new programs (a huge problem for a party that thrives on expanding government), and giving Republicans the opening to push real budget cuts through reconciliation (something Democrats desperately wanted to avoid).

And progressives are losing their minds over it. They see the writing on the wall: this CR isn’t the endgame, it’s the set-up for budget reconciliation, where real, codified spending cuts can happen. Cuts that will be far harder to reverse once they’re in place.

Democrats had two choices, and neither one was good:

Option 1: Filibuster the resolution and shut down the government, handing Russ Vought—the OMB director and a fiscal conservative who will take a machete to government spending with a mad grin on his face (probably)—full control over what spending gets prioritized.

Option 2: Pass the CR and keep the government open, but in doing so, legitimize the spending cuts that Republicans have been working toward all along (and, more importantly, legitimizing Elon Musk's work).

They chose the latter, because between letting Vought run wild in a shutdown or dealing with the political fallout of conceding to Republicans, they went with what they saw as the lesser of two evils. But make no mistake—this was a trap, and Chuck Schumer knows it…..

Donald Trump Makes Chuck Schumer's Day So Much Worse With Epic Troll After CR Cave
Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing — Took “guts” and courage! The big Tax Cuts, L.A. fire fix, Debt Ceiling Bill, and so much more, is coming. We should all work together on that very dangerous situation. A non pass would be a Country destroyer, approval will lead us to new heights. Again, really good and smart move by Senator Schumer. This could lead to something big for the USA, a whole new direction and beginning! DJT
