I was watching several clips after I posted. I think my favorite line is after he walks across the golf course and is stopped by the two old guys golfing, the old timers fire a ball off at him, he blows away their golf cart with his shotgun, and one falls down with a heart attack:AZGrizFan wrote:93henfan wrote:

How 'bout gerrymandering, denying people the right to vote, shrinking the powers of incoming electees, stealing Supreme Court seats, sowing the seeds of doubt in the press, demonizing certain Americans, undermining investigative processes, valuing money and corporate interests over fellow Americans, and not seriously taking foreign interference on elections?AZGrizFan wrote:∞∞∞ wrote: Nope. I respect the conservatives that have distanced themselves from the modern GOP, although they did assist in creating the beast which exists today.
Except we're not the ones attempting to kill the 2nd amendment, or rioting in the streets and attempting to change the rules when we don't get our way. Swing and a miss. Try again.
And that's just the attack on democracy; we can state the attacks on liberty if you want.
But hey, I'm sorry that shattered window really undermines your view of democracy.

Donks gerrymander too. Doesn't make it right, but that's not a one-way street. Nice blinders.∞∞∞ wrote:How 'bout gerrymandering, denying people the right to vote, shrinking the powers of incoming electees, stealing Supreme Court seats, sowing the seeds of doubt in the press, demonizing certain Americans, undermining investigative processes, valuing money and corporate interests over fellow Americans, and not seriously taking foreign interference on elections?AZGrizFan wrote:

How, exactly are we "denying people the right to vote"? Are you one of them "let 'em all vote, no ID necessary" dipshits?
Shrinking the power of incoming electees? I don't even know what that fucking means.
Stealing Supreme Court seats? Do tell...coming from the party that wants to change the rules and add SC seats because they lost an election and didn't get their way, that's a priceless assertion.
Sowing seeds of doubt in the press? The Press created its own mess. Nobody else. The fact Trump CALLS them on it is what pisses them off. They are propaganda machines...nothing more.
Demonizing certain Americans? Does "basket of deplorables" ring a fucking bell?
Undermining investigative processes...you mean like 2 straight years of investigating a president and then coming up with jack shit? You mean like forming a standing committee to do nothing BUT investigate the sitting president?
Valuing money and corporate interests over Americans...again, if you truly believe that's a one-sided equation I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I'll sell you cheap (hint: They're ALL the same).
Foreign interference in elections? Two years and this claim is a big nothing burger. How about dead people voting? How about the dems trying to steal Florida's EC votes? There's enough DEM interference in elections right here at home to write a fucking book.
Again, big swing and a miss. You're shooting 0-fer today...

Dems have their issues too but values within the party are being challenged. Despite problems, it's nowhere close to the systematic approach Republicans have taken to chip away at the foundations of American democracy. And the GOP hasn't self-policed itself at all; if anything it's double-downed on tactics.
But Americans are beginning to agree and I'm going to really enjoy the freak-outs you'll have as old f*cks die off and Gen X/Y/Z take over. I already got a great preview when Obama was in office, and the entire AOC thread is littered with responses of ever-shrinking viewpoints.
Remember what I keep saying: conservatism never wins in the end. The entire nation is significantly more progressive than the day you were born. And it will be even more so the day you die.

I know I'm playing it. But I'm saying stats show they're closer as cohort to millennials than any other group.

My brother is 21 and the friends of his that I have met are 20-22 years old (I met and hung out with 3 of them) are all more conservative then me. Two of them come from the Minneapolis/St.- Paul region of MN, not a bastion of conservatism by any means.∞∞∞ wrote:Congrats. Every young person I know is more liberal than I am. Yes, I am realize I am pulling an observation from a small group of people who are probably biased to the right from the beginning, but I do not think that the next generation will be a shoe-in for the left like you think it will be. It will probably be around 50-50, just like it is today.

Besides, who is a bigger threat to this country?
1. Old people who think the founding fathers had most of this figured out correctly 200+ years ago.
2. Young people that think they've actually figured out a way for socialism to succeed on a large scale.

But anyways, I think you guys have a pre-conceived notion of something and actively seek it out. Then you find an example or two which is inevitable in a large population and bam, you paint a broad stroke.

Personally I've run across very few dicks. Sure you're not going to get a "hello" from everyone you pass on the street, but it's a large metropolitan area. Otherwise most are nice in your interactions with them, and I would say that holds true throughout the United States.
Sometimes I've noticed a cultural difference is taken as "assholery" (an example is white people being annoyed at black teens dancing on the Metro), but that's just someone not liking something because it's not part of their culture. It doesn't make the teens assholes.

No. I was an ACTUAL liberal. Voted for Dems. Planned on going to Canada if I got drafted. That kind of thing. As I got older and started making bank, and after spending 23 years working for the government I realized what a fucking money sucking machine the government is in every way, shape or form. You’re still idealistic and think that more government is the answer to everything.
