I am coming to believe that it's almost not going to matter who they have running because Trump is such an atrocity. See the shutdown thread where a Public Policy Polling poll has respondents favoring every Democrat they ask about, including Schumer and Peloisi, over Trump in a hypothetical 2020 Presidential election matchup. I think the country may very well be in "Anybody but Trump" mode right now.

Speaking of the Indians they favored Harris over Trump by 48% to 41% and favored Warren over Trump by 48% to 42%.

Yes, I know it's about the Electoral College. But Trump is not a strong candidate. Just about anybody the Democrats nominate will have a reasonable chance to beat him. And if they nominate a reasonably strong candidate he is toast.

I'd be interested in seeing which post you are talking about. There was a time early on where I thought Trump had no chance in a general election but it was not because of polls. It was because he is such a horrific moral atrocity that I did not think White Evangelical Christians would vote for him in the general election. But I think that was during 2015 after he first came out.

Once we got heavy into 2016 and it became clear that White Evangelical Christians were not rejecting him as I thought they would I was not at all confident that Trump could not win. And I'm not saying he can't win in 2020. But he is not a strong candidate. Just about anybody the Democrats nominate should have a reasonable chance to beat him. And if they nominate a good candidate the chance will be really good.

The idea of eliminating the Electoral College and going to direct popular vote is not "retard" and enjoys public support. If the Democrats really do push for that they will be pushing for a popular action. The most recent poll I can find with a quick Google search on that is described at https://www.prri.org/research/american- ... tion-2018/.

It's from July 2018. You have to scroll down some but as you do you will find this:

Also, the arguments I've seen for having an Electoral College system for electing a President are invalid in today's context. No reason to have it now.
