Clerk replies, "Well, sir, that brain has never been used”.

The worst Christians I know, are the ones that belong to those "non-denominational" "churches". My cousin runs one and he's unbearable. He's probably 1 or 2 comments away from being shunned.kalm wrote:vGil Dobie wrote:

I really don't have a problem with vocal christians it's their gig and if it makes them better people and provides emotional security than so be it. I just find it odd that public proclamations like "he has risen" are viewed as ordinary rational thoughts in this day and age.Ibanez wrote:The worst Christians I know, are the ones that belong to those "non-denominational" "churches". I see a niche on both sides that are annoying.kalm wrote:vGil Dobie wrote:

I have no issue with you being proud and secure in your faith. However, don't be like my cousin who:kalm wrote:I really don't have a problem with vocal christians it's their gig and if it makes them better people and provides emotional security than so be it. Agree. Same with the infatuation with superhero movies.kalm wrote:Ibanez wrote: I just find it odd that public proclamations like "he has risen" are viewed as ordinary rational thoughts in this day and age.
Huh? So now publicly acknowledging adherence to a particular faith or religion is considered to be irrational? For someone who doesn't have a problem with it, that's a pretty damning thing to say.kalm wrote:

Yes and no. I don't damn people for being religious but I can think the silly parts irrational. Having to believe the ascension story (for example) to signify "adherence to a faith or religion" being one of many examples.GannonFan wrote:Huh? In what way? In what way has God been disproven to justify calling it irrational? Being rational implies using reason and logic and neither of those leads to a conclusion that a God, from whatever religion someone professes to, does not exist. When you call it irrational you seem to be jumping to a conclusion that hasn't been reached.Skjellyfetti wrote:I'm a Christian and consider faith and religion to be irrational.
I don't find it damning or even a negative.
Trying too hard to apply rationality to Christianity or any other religion results in fundamentalism on the one hand or neckbeard atheism on the other. Better to call it what it is.
Well, the central tenet of Christianity is that Jesus was risen so you seem to be calling Christianity irrational then. Is that what you contend? Same question I posed to Skelly, how have you disproven that God exists to justify calling it irrational?kalm wrote:Yes and no. Not speaking for them, but I think some of the things from the Bible defy logic. The plagues, rising from the dead... all defy logic in the natural world that God has created. It doesn't mean God doesn't exist. It means his message has been distorted.GannonFan wrote:Well, the central tenet of Christianity is that Jesus was risen so you seem to be calling Christianity irrational then. It might be real but. Anything might be real. Dragons might exist. I didn't attempt to disprove the existence of god. Just that the ascension story isn't very believable.GannonFan wrote:Well, the central tenet of Christianity is that Jesus was risen so you seem to be calling Christianity irrational then.
