Friends... I have been doing some data analytics of the number of COVID-19 Cases because the way the Media is presenting the facts of the situation is morally correct, yet is factually, shall we say off kilter, they are using broad brush descriptions like the United States is 11 Days away from being Italy, well I can tell you by looking at the Data that is factually a gross over statement and a gross understatement, and it all depends on where you live. The media is comparing absolute numbers of cases and creating epidemiological curves, this is a bad use of statistics as it does not account for population or regional density. Leaving these factors our skews the data. Part of my reason for doing this is to see if we, in Washington are Flattening the Curve, from my review of the data, I think we are, however, other places, like New York City is on Fire, and will effectively be on par with Italy sometime tomorrow, if they aren't already. I'm not going to share all the statistics, Ive pulled together, but I am going to share a key one - per capita number of cases per 1,000,000 of population, this makes it a closer apples to apples comparison by location, so here are my location numbers so you can get a sense. This is as of today:
Italy 777
New York City 613
Spain 461
Puget Sound Metro 322
Washington State 213
United States of America 59
To get a handle on whether a curve is flattening or not, one needs to look at percentage growth of cases over time. Is that trend line accelerating, decelerating or changing. My small sample size so far suggests WA State is decelerating, which is probably why Governor Inslee did not order a shelter in place today, but New York City is rapidly accelerating, like unrestrained wild fire that is going to make Italy and Spain look quaint in comparison. Over the next few days, Im going to expand my data sets and include California. If people are interested Ill figure out an efficient way to share more of this so you can see it. Please let me know.![]()

All worthless stats. Unless the level of testing is the same, comparisons based on "cases" are pointless.

Re: Coronavirus
He's an imposter.
Billing himself as Chico, he used an Italian persona for his onstage character; stereotyped ethnic characters were common with vaudevillians. His non-Italian-ness was specifically referred to twice on film. In their second feature, Animal Crackers, he recognizes someone he knows to be a fish peddler impersonating a respected art collector:
Ravelli (Chico): "How is it you got to be Roscoe W. Chandler?"
Chandler: "Say, how did you get to be an Italian?"
Ravelli: "Never mind—whose confession is this?"
In A Night at the Opera, which begins in Italy, his character, Fiorello, claims not to be Italian, eliciting a surprised look from Groucho:
Driftwood (Groucho): "Well, things seem to be getting better around the country."
Fiorello (Chico): "I don't know, I'm a stranger here myself."

Serious or Critical cases jumped from 63 to 704. Not sure if a surge or if that number wasn't updated that often as it was in the low 60's pretty much the whole week.

He was very aware that people would be offended if he said "Chinese virus" and he went out of his way to do it. There was absolutely no reason to start off a press conference like that. There is down side to doing it and absolutely no up side. No reason not to just say something like "the novel coronavirus." No informational reason to do what he did. The man is, emotionally, a child.
Fuck the Chinese and their carefully concocted publicity sweep. Nice to see you’d rather be a pawn for them than support our president.
And I’m not defending the “Chinese Flu” either way.

Re: Coronavirus
Watching Cuomo talking now about wanting the Army Corps of Engineers to begin constructing makeshift hospitals.
I don't understand why they wouldn't use high schools.
They have electricity, heat/AC, a big gym with large restrooms/locker rooms, a cafeteria to feed the health care workers, separate areas to perform other activities, etc.
Not sure why you would want to start from scratch.

Because using the ACOE shifts the blame to the Feds if SHTF. Local Emergency Response Planning should have captured the utilization of all local assets before crawling to the Fed.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:34 am Watching Cuomo talking now about wanting the Army Corps of Engineers to begin constructing makeshift hospitals.

No, seriously. We use schools for storm shelters all the time. Just wondering why we aren't using them for this. I would think a gym and locker room would be easy to disinfect when done. There must be some reason, I just haven't heard it yet. It just seems like a layup to use schools without admittedly knowing all of the possible issues.Ivytalk wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:36 amBecause he’s a liberal. Re: Coronavirus
I don't know if it's the reason, but healthcare facilities (and particularly hospitals) are built so that they can't spread disease, especially when it comes to HVAC. Considering this is an airborne virus, it's even more important not to use any facility lying around where the rooms can't be properly isolated, pressurized, dehumidified, etc. Otherwise I imagine there's a real risk of spreading it further.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:43 amNo, seriously.
