You're misunderstanding what I said. I didn't mean insane that you have a crazy, unbelievable number. I meant that it's insane that the number will probably get that high.

Could be - Bill Clinton won with a margin of 5M votes in the first election and then 9M in the second one. Obama's 10M vote win in 2008 was the largest in awhile (he only beat Romney by 5M in the second election). She could very well be like her husband - I think Bill Clinton is the only President to be elected twice while never receiving more than 50% of the popular vote. Given the disgust with the two major parties, it's very likely again that the winner will be well south of 50%.

I see that Trump is still controlling the news cycle.

I wonder what all of these news media and liberal comedy outlets are going to do after the election.

It would surprise me if they do one of those "Hillary is heading to the inauguration, LET'S GO LIVE TO TRUMP TOWER AND SEE WHAT DONALD IS UP TOO TODAY!!" deals on Jan 20th.

I think the Steele's racist, angry underbelly is referencing the same basket of deplorables.

Michael Steele, who led the Republican Party from 2009 to 2011, became the latest senior Republican figure to say he would not vote for Donald Trump.

“I will not be voting for Clinton,” Steele told a dinner in honor of the 40th anniversary of the progressive magazine Mother Jones in San Francisco Friday. “I will not be voting for Trump either.”

Steele, a former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, said that Trump has “captured that racist underbelly, that frustration, that angry underbelly of American life and gave voice to that.”

“I was damn near puking during the debates,” Steele said, adding that he believes Trump only represents 30% of the Republican Party.

Steele is the third former Republican National Committee Chairman to say he won’t support Trump; the others are Marc Racicot and Mel Martinez.

Hillary's not the one that has to worry about the Deplorables. It's the Republican Party that has to worry about them. They're a millstone around the Republican Party's neck. The Party can't live with them and they can't live without them. They're in a serious fix. People said before that it's nearly impossible for a candidate that can win the general election to win the Republican primaries and the existence of a critical mass of the Republican electorate that would vote for an abomination like Trump in the primaries means that is more evident now than it's ever been before.

Hillary and Democrats are fine with the Deplorables because as long as those people are a serious factor in Republican politics the Democrats are in really good shape. Right now the political future looks like this to the Democrats:

Image

The Republicans had candidates that would have been favorites to win the general election this year. Candidates that were perfectly acceptable and whose odds of beating Clinton would've been FAR higher than Trump's. And it was clear that was the case from the beginning. But the Deplorables screwed the Party up by voting for a complete embarrassment.

BTW there are still poll results that concern me. They tend to be daily tracking polls. There's that LA Times/USC poll, the Rasmussen Poll, and the IBD/TIPP poll. As of today they have Trump at +1, +2, and +1 respectively.

I think that if you look at all the polls including the State by State polls and you had to bet you'd bet on Clinton. But the situation is not nearly as high probability as I would like for it to be.

Plus what I want is for Trump to get really badly blown out. I think that is what would be best for the country as well as for the Republican Party. We need for Trump to get just completely crushed so people won't be likely to do something like this again.

And of course there is Wikileaks. That's a real wildcard. Drives me crazy because the people there do live on this planet and I don't know why they would want to see an emotionally unstable nut job like Trump in position to order the use of nuclear weapons. Insane of them to be trying to influence the election in favor of somebody who represents a risk of extinction of our species.

A freaking military coup is more probably than a nuclear war started because some world leader insulted him on twitter. Even nutcases like Kim Jong Whatevers don't want nuclear war deep down.

Yet the election of America’s first woman president should have felt as historic as when the country elected its first black head of state eight years ago. Instead it will be an anticlimax, and that is rather sad.
