Thanks for the clarification, hound.

I disagree that Rush really has a dislike for black quarterbacks even though they worked just as hard as he has worked, but I understand how a black person could believe that.

In any case, I think the way Rush said what he said about McNabb was especially stupid and unnecessary. McNabb's subsequent successes on the field also show Ruch to be a poor judge of football talent. (Not that being a poor judge of talent would disqualify anyone from being an NFL owner...)

Anyway, I especially like McNabb because of how he tried to exert leadership during the T.O. drama in Philadelphia.

A lot of athletes, PRO or not, have degrees and many of them didn't learn a damn thing in school and were passed because they were athletes.
That can translate to high school diplomas also, white or black. So what's your point?

Point is those degree's that those athletes may have don't mean a damn thing. If I get my degree this Spring in Family Services, like I am set to do, but I spend the next 20 year of my life, or so, doing something in a completely unrelated field, my degree doesn't mean shit...neither will theirs

Except for some highly specialized degrees like engineering and accounting, few of the degrees mean much except that you have the perseverance to get the degree.

Fair enough. Just to demonstrate what I was talking about. In August of 2008, I put in my two weeks notice at a call center in Nashville, TN. The reason was that my supervisor seems to have made it a personal journey to try to make me his whipping boy because I was taking too long on my calls. Everyone wanted call handling times to go down. In June 2008, I started Weight Watchers and I wasn't being too successful because I was driving nearly 75 miles one way everyday to work and being home sometimes 2AM or later, then waking up a 11AM. By 1 or 1:30PM I had to go back to work by 3:30PM. I had absolutely no time to exercise or doing anything for myself besides taking a shower and briefly watch TV. The stress that this was putting on me was extraordinary so I left my job and my weight has been dropping ever since that time. Eliminating the stress in my life has benefited me overall despite having no income coming in. Would I do it again? Absolutely because that was something I didn't want from a supervisor to be constantly bullied because I was too slow on the calls. Integrity trumps money and that's what I mean. It is not just a soundbyte about Rush that formed my opinions about him. His actions has clearly demonstrated my disdain for him. I back up what I say plain and simple and I am living proof of my own theory in action. Alphagriz's comment was out of line and morphed me into the "black woman" mode that AZGrizFan said. :thumb:

I went to college straight out of high school. My degree is in Geography, but I still didn't know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life at that time. To be totally honest, I was so glad just to have a scholarship and to be out of mom and dad's supervision. I was too busy trying to find who I was rather than on schoolwork. Now I know what I want to do and it's not too late for me, but I want to get everything in line first and then make the leap. It may be the long way about doing things, but it is the right thing to do for me right now.

Your opposition to Rush is emotional, not rational. Your overreaching post was a foolish gesture because your pile of stones is a great deal smaller than my pile of stones. You opened yourself up to be hung on your own petard. What he said about McNabb was stupid but not inaccurate at the time he said it. Stupid, not evil; not lacking in integrity; not fraudulent like Jackson and Sharpton.

I do not want to be your enemy but you do not get a pass because you are black! I don't blame you for having feelings, but you must find a way to push beyond them.

Instead of throwing stones at each other why don't we find something to agree on. I propose Bill Cosby. He is a decent man who is still a Democrat, and also a responsible leader who talks rationally.

It wasn't aimed at you native, it was at Alphagriz's comment. His comment was purely emotional himself. Rush was also emotional in his comments about McNabb and on black quarterbacks in general. He seems to have a general dislike for people that worked just as hard as he did to get to where they are today.
What are you talking about? He was brought in to ESPN to do opinion pieces and there was NOTHING emotional or racist about it. He was talking about the media wanting to give too much credit to Donovan for the team's success based on the fact that he was black. Can you find racism in it? Sure, but that was not what I see that he was going for.

Pretty modest comments, indeed. Not enough to justify all the hoopla. I wonder what Tommy Jackson said in response?

His comments were right. McNabb didn't become what we know today until after those comments. I could see ohw they were taken as racist but they weren't.

The NFL in early 2000's was desperate for a black coach and black QB to do well, so they pushed McNabb and over glorified him. He was right, could have said it better, but he was right.

Proof that athletes pass because they are athletes? I know many people who were TA's when Eric Coleman, Ben Jacobson, Grant Stout, Brennan Carter, etc.. were on campus. They were in charge of correcting the bubble sheets and multiple choice portions of tests. They said that on very few tests did they get above a C-, yet they passed the class with a mid level A or B. Something seems odd there

My rage wasn't even about McNabb. It was about Alphagriz comments about linking me about being a racist. I am far from that. I was talking about integrity over money and he failed miserably to try to paint me as a hypocrit. You have to look at the previous page to see where my rage started from.

Some are, some aren't. Unfortunately the "some are" group is getting larger in a time when the discussion could move understandings between us all much further down the road than at any time in the past.

I saw it and I didn't debate what you and Alpha are doing to each other as you both are representing yourselves on the matter. I only pulled what you said that I see as inaccurate and tried to show you why I think you are spreading something around that isn't true. If you refine your argument to debating only him and not putting in things like Rush is a racist and was picking on McNabb and many other black QB's then I would get the point more clearly.
