No I don't. There are logical reasons why it took so long to bring the indictments ...

In fact, apart from the individual documents Trump is charged with illegally retaining, each of Trump’s charges in this case results from conduct between May 2022 and August 2022. And the slow pace of the investigation and criminal charges clearly owes to Trump’s repeated failures, over many months, to return the documents — a situation culminating in the August 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago. The indictment came 10 months later.

Democrats are getting what they wanted - Trump looks like he's going to be on the GOP ticket come November. Still a chance that Haley can win New Hampshire and maybe turn the tide. Unlikely, but still possible and I'm hoping for that. Unfortunately for the Dems, Biden looks so increasingly mentally incapable of holding the job that it's actually possible that Trump could beat Biden in a second matchup. So we could actually have Trump as a President for the next four years (assuming he doesn't die or gets impeached and removed from office).

All of this could've been avoided if we had 1) impeached and removed him from office, and barring further holding, in the immediate aftermath of 1/6 (see my prior posts about how the Dems overreaching on the first impeachment help to scuttle the second attempt) or 2) actually charged Trump with insurrection and gotten him convicted on that anytime in the past 3 years. Instead, we had a hodge-podge of criminal cases that won't actually bar Trump from running or holding office - some of the cases are just trumped-up cases without a lot of substance that actually do look like weaponization of the legal system (NYC fraud case) and other cases are substantial but seem to purposely fall short of the insurrection charge. The Dems wanted Trump tarnished, but they didn't want him out of the race. Well, looks like they're getting what they wanted, even if they'd probably reconsider that now given how risky Biden now looks. Yay America.

Trump's stopped-clock moment was when he said Nikki isn't tough enough. Might as well elect Trump, as Nikki would be his sock puppet enacting directives from Mar a Lago. The simple fact is that the American electorate has been mentally regressing for decades now and we may have arrived at the point where they (we) have lapsed to the point where they can't read the manual about how democracy works and don't have any interest in fixing it anyway. I feel sorry for those of us here that are too young to have experienced America at her peak - it was a ride like there will never be again.

Different genres but I think of Ray Davies as something like the British version of John Prine in that you dont hear him mentioned often with the best songwriters in Britain although he's every bit as good just as Prine's work deserves to be mentioned with the likes of Dylan and Paul Simon among US songwriters of that generation
