I have issues with ed too and I'm being persuaded by the argument to abolish the DOE and return to greater local control. But she is NOT the person to do this. She's a religious fanatic who has shown a propensity toward using federal funding to benefit religious and for-profit education. She admitted as much in her hearing...that charter schools wouldn't be held to the same federal standards as public schools.Cluck U wrote:Meh...if it takes a whacko to get to full school choice, then I'll take a whacko for a couple years.GannonFan wrote:

She also didn't understand Franken's question regarding growth vs proficiency in education. Admittedly, I would have stumbled too but I'm not nominated for SOE and if I were, I would have probably boned up on it.
No thanks...

Let's be sure to give her credit for the "well, there are grizzly bears in Wyoming, so I can't rule out guns in schools" line...kalm wrote:I have issues with ed too and I'm being persuaded by the argument to abolish the DOE and return to greater local control. The previous two Sec of E's were nuclear physicists and one a Nobel Prize winner.
We now get Rick F. Perry, a college cheerleader who admittedly is in wonderment at what the DOE actually does...after wanting to abolish it.
This might be the least qualified cabinet ever but a wish them well!

Re: The Official "Making America Great Again" Thread
Actually, some of them are extremely qualified, but not that fucking doofus.

All of these appointees that are creating the hand wringing and panic attacks are not actually a problem...
These people need to be confirmed immediately sworn in and dumped into their new jobs STAT
And good luck
In very short order (see Rick Perry) they will be in meetings where they have no idea what's going
and will be doing actual jobs - much UNLIKE their present sugar coated semi-vacations
This will be just fine
They will be tasked to LEARN new things
and meet with sincere hard working professionals
Frankly - to me - this is where Trumps actually hitting the nail on the head

This. Visit any inner city school and it doesn't take long to realize that public education is in shambles.Cluck U wrote:Meh...if it takes a whacko to get to full school choice, then I'll take a whacko for a couple years.GannonFan wrote:

Public education is broken. We need an entirely new system.

And if you go to a middle or upper class area the public schools are just fine. Strange how that works!kalm wrote:Maybe because the inner cities are in shambles?SDHornet wrote: This. Visit any inner city school and it doesn't take long to realize that public education is in shambles.
