No kidding. My kids were shocked when I told them about what my 3rd grade Gym teacher said back in the day. He was showing us how to climb the rope, the one that went all the way to the ceiling with only a one inch pad underneath it, and he kicked me right in the eye trying to demonstrate he could climb without using his legs.

After he kicked me, I covered my eye out of reflex and he says, "don't be a pussy and cry!". I had two older brothers, there was no way I was crying.

Yep. Kids now a days are such pussies compared to those of us growing up in the 80s.

Not knowing the details I would say that it failed due to mismanagement more than a focus on ESG. You can debate whether ESG is good business but it is possible to be well managed and have an ESG focus.

And the irony of a man whose companies have declared bankruptcy 6 times criticizing another organization's business practices.

Side note...a while back I found a paper on sci-hub that claimed that banks that coupled diverse leadership with a certain type of management style performed better. When I downloaded it and looked at their results management diversity actually had a significantly negative effect on the performance of the bank and those management styles just negated some of the negative effects. Of course they and the publishers are social scientists and didn't know how to interpret the interaction term and don't understand concepts like gradient vectors so they went with it.

We all know these banks act completely recklessly and irresponsibly, but if it's really a matter of them not taking into account rising interest rates it seems to me like there's some incompetence involved even if their board is a bunch of white guys.
