The geographic features were distributed across U.S. states and territories; they weren't internationally shared geographic locations like Lake Ontario or the Gulf of Mexico.

And I believe that all of the places that were renamed contained the word "squaw".

Indeed and thank you. Why would anyone object to removing a word like squaw? I’ve seen the n-word used for creek names in our area on old maps. I’m sure their removal created great consternation!
