Seems our reps are taking out 50 years of auto market frustration out on them for this one recent issue. Jesus Fucking Christ, weren't Fords spontaneously exploding not to long ago?

Also, smart people, like me, can see right through this lame attempt to divert attention from your remarkable ineptitude in Washington. Leave them the **** alone - get back to work and deliver healthcare reform, get us the **** out of Iraq and Afghanistan, fix the tax structure and quit spending money you don't have.

Fucking Knuckleheads.
I've owned 4 Camry's (including the one my wife currently drives), 3 Sequoias, 1 Forerunner and the Tundra I drive currently.

My next car will be a Toyota. The one after THAT will be a Toyota....and the one after THAT will be a Toyota.
The performance today just increased slightly the chances that my next truck will be a Tundra. Could also be a Titan or a Ford.

Currently drive an 04' Titan with about 94k miles on it. Titan came out in 04' and won't have a redesign till 2014 model year, 3 1/2 yrs away (which is an unheard of length of time as truck redesigns typically come every 5-6 years).

Certainly won't be a Govt Motors or a Chrysler (Dodge).

Ford Taurus SHO
Audi A4
Mercedes C300 Sport

The SHO is one bad-ass car.
The CG car is a 2010 Taurus. It's pretty badass.

In all likliehood, I'll be driving a Honda or Toyota forever. Best cars I've driven in terms of reliability - just got 210,000 out of my Corolla before buying a Honda Odyssey (darn kids). Certainly if I had the money to go with a real luxury car, and didn't have to worry about hauling kids around, I'd go with something else. But for $30k and under with a family in mind, it won't ever be anything but those two brands.

Meet the new boss.....same as the old boss.

Sorry dude. Saturn Corporation is an automobile manufacturer and marque, established on January 7, 1985 as a subsidiary of Government Motors in response to the success of Japanese automobile imports in the United States. The company marketed itself as a "different kind of car company," and operated somewhat independently from its parent company for a time, with its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, unique models, and a separate retailer network.

Following the withdrawal of a bid by Penske Automotive to acquire Saturn on September 2009, Government Motors is expected to shut down Saturn by October 2010. All new production was halted on October 1, 2009. Many former Saturn Corporation assets are held by Motors Liquidation Company.

Maybe Obama will give a rebate for exchanging your old GovtMotors vehicle for a new one.
I'm sure I'll be subsidizing that as well. You're welcome.

Nope, never got it boner. You must have me mixed up with someone who approved of "too big to fail". I'll still give you a ride when your "Ford Tough" truck is broken down on the side of the road - you can ride in the trunk and I'll pipe in some "special" air through a hose. ;)

Can any of you truck guys answer this question for me? Why don't the truck makers build a medium-duty, six cylinder diesel priced about the same as their gas V8s? I'd love to buy a truck with more torque, durability, and fuel efficiency than a V8 gasser for about the same price. The current Cummins/Duramax/Powerstroke offerings are overkill for a lot of folks. I don't need that kind of power, and there's no way I'm dropping over $40K on a pickup. A medium-duty diesel priced at ~$30K would sell like hotcakes. Why is Detroit (or even Tokyo) holding out?

Interesting question.

WHen i was in the market for a truck(4 years ago) I was wondering how Toyota could sell a brand new Tundra for $1-$3k more than the same truck, but 5 years older.

Environmentalists. Emission equipment has hampered diesels (and driven up price) to the point that there is very little fuel economy benefit, over the increasingly efficient gasoline engines.

Couple of points:

I totally agree that the EPA (more specifically CARB) is single-handedly trying to squash diesel. They're so hung up on the hybrid BS it's maddening. Converting just 1/3 of US gasoline automobiles to diesel would drop the price of fuel a jaw-dropping amount and piss off OPEC to no end.

A small I6 (or even 4 cyl) Cummins would make me droooooooooool. EDIT: Fiat? WTF?

Oh, and I'd totally rock the Mahindra! Reminds me of my dad's Datsun pickup in the 70s (yep, he gave up on his Chevy's during the embargo). I used to ride in the center of the bench seat and shift while he held down the clutch. No seat belt on, of course. Those were the days.

It's the same shit I lay on my brother (who owns a dodge truck)
Guess I should have used smilies.

Yeah, I resent the bailout(s)...across the board. :pissed:
I have a BIG tax bill that I can't resolve because of FannieMae & FreedieMac requirements. :pissed:
I won't go into the details but it's ironic that the people my tax dollars "bailed out" are now making it difficult to pay my taxes.

As for the NC pig farm reference.
Funding for a study as to why they stink was one of the "earmarks" in uncle Obama's "porkulus" bill (probably "urban myth" but isn't an unreasonable myth, given the way the porkulus bill is being executed) Don't know if it made the cut, but Bozeman made good use of their cut of Obama's stash to repave tennis courts.

Anyway, I don't usually apologize. especially here.
But for what it's worth, Sorry..............."Douchebag". ;)

I suspect the reason you don't see small diesels is the reason you seldom see automatic transmissions in sportscars.
Diesels are more about hauling power than anything else - requires big engines.
Sportscars are about performance (and tactile satisfaction), which usually suffer with an automatic transmission.

Niche markets.
