Justice Clarence Thomas for Prez in 2012?

Interesting idea for the struggling GOP. He would surely get killed for his lack of experience at actually being in charge of people and budgets, but it may take a bold move from the GOP such as this to challange Obama in 2012 (despite his current dip in popularity).

It would also be nice to see a Patriot Leaguer in the White House (Holy Cross grad).

Heck, the GOP may be challenging Clinton in 2012...

Its also worth pointing out that even if he were to maintain his seat and go AWOL from the court to run for office like lots of Senators do, he unlike a Senator faces the possibility of impeachment.

Of course, impeachment also requires 2/3 of the Senate to remove him from his position so I don't think that would be anywhere close to likely in this case if it were to happen.

The process itself is damaging enough, regardless of the outcome.

Is it though? Clinton actually came out of the impeachment process stronger than when he went in. And as for a SCOTUS justice, what exactly is there to damage? They write decisions and make the final calls on constitutionality of laws - how would Thomas suffer as a justice on the SCOTUS if he survived an impeachment, as he surely would absent any malfesance on his part?

Our founding fathers would have had Clarence Thomas pickin' cotton. So, I doubt he's the type of guy they were trying to protect us from.

Some of the Founders would have had him picking cotton, and some would not. It is fair to say that many, if not most of the Founders could not have envisioned a Clarence Thomas, but also that many, if not most, would be delighted and pleasantly surprised to meet him today.
