God inconvenienced a lot of motherfvckers across the world to "test" them, Z. Cost 'em several millions of dollars, too. Should the Chilean prez send the bill to "God"?

Actually Hen, faith helps, but just like in everything, it was technology, yearning to be with family, hard work, a basic survival instinct in all of us or ingenuitiy that kept them alive.

God, jesus or the holy ghost - whichever one they were praying too, undeservedly, gets all the credit.

If your gonna give god credit for the rescue, then you also gotta fault him (or it ) for the collapse.

I'm pretty much with D on this one.

Faith, even if it is in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, is a very powerful thing. There is a reason for those people who are going through really hard times that all of a sudden break out of it and then they credit faith. That faith isn't always in God, although God does get the most credit. I know people who have had situations like that, but they credit the turn around to finding faith in anything to believe in.

The technology saved them, the faith kept them going.

Oh, and as for the "God would never do this to his children" shit. If you read the Bible and take it as face value/believe it/whatever you know God has done this shit for as long as Christianity has been around. Like Z said, if God is real, God was testing them. They passed the test. Next story.

Good post Clenz.

But why would god need to test 30 Chilean miners?

Are the millions who die each year in accidents and starvation failing god's tests?

Sounds kinda silly, IMO. :ugeek:
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Agreed that it does sound silly, and I can't answer that.

I'm not a Biblical expert, never once claimed to be, and will never claim to be.

If God was testing them, it could be for hundreds of reasons. Maybe he felt the world needed a "Daniel in the lions den" type story to get people "going with their faith more".

I have no real answer, and it is possible that God had nothing to do with it. I don't have that answer, and I'm not going to pretend I do.

Cool, I don't either. :geek:

So God gets credit for the collapse. It's through adversity that we grow and prove our mettle. If we went through life always happy, we wouldn't learn or know how to appreciate the good times and blessings. If we never knew suffering, we'd never know pleasure.

There is a season and a purpose for all things under the heavens. A time to be born, a time to die. A time to laugh, a time to cry. All that we experience, the good and the bad, even the mundane, inform our conscience and our person.

I don't think God plays an active roll in our everyday lives. I think of Him as more of an observer/judge.

If faith kept the miners strong then Gods gets the credit for that, but I don't blame God for the mine collapse or credit Him for the rescue.

Joe, this "test" is Hollywoodinian - the best of tests - ideal - perfectly illustrates your point above. Again, what about the starving millions in Darfour, the Cherynoble people and others who die, or as romantically framed by you and Hen - those who "fail"?

If you believe in nothing but this world, your perspective dictates that you should avoid pain and pursue pleasure.

But if there's more than this world, pain and denial, even dire hunger, can even be blessings. Blessed are the poor; the kingdom of God is theirs.

Perhaps the existence of hunger is actually our test??
