Depends on state law...

SCOTUS has ruled in a number of areas that Constitutional rights can be regulated by the states in a reasonable manner...I see no reason to assume that marriage laws would be any different

For example, a gay citizens in Arizona can legally carry a weapon, but would be slammed up against a police car in Illinois or Wisconsin...and the RKBA is written into the Constitution...I don't find marriage anywhere in that document...

I guess it depends on what each state calls reasonable...

Except that the SCOTUS has already ruled in Loving vs Virginia that inter-racial marriages performed in one state had to be recognized in another. How would gay marriage be different than that?

We are first and foremost the UNITED states.

Then why do you approve of states denying citizens of CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS that you don't like...but want rights that are close to your heart and expect everyone to just jump to your support???

You come out as strongly for my rights...and I'll support yours...

Oppose...just because no one else said it, I'll be the first. :stir:

Actually I support and feel they all (+-, ++, --) should be civil unions.

Everyone here probably knows my position: no government-sanctioned marriage. But, if allowing everyone "civil unions" will quell the issue, then I support that. My marriage won't be weakened if two men want to marry, and for the life of me I don't understand why insurance, inheritance, hospital visitation is linked to a marriage certificate. To me, if two adults want to enter into a contract that grants these privileges, so be it--what do I care?

What I really support is your ability to do what you want, so long as it doesn't impede my ability to do the same. :thumb:

And really, I have no problem with polygamy either. Maybe it's from watching too many episodes of "Big Love", but hey, they're grown ups, if they want to do that then by all means, have at it. :thumb:

I understand but unfortunately polygamy is typically another form of female (usually teenage) slavery.

So it I can't do it, nobody can

I have said numerous times on this board that I think the pillow biters have just as much right to be miserable as the rest of us.

Eh, a lot of people will claim that simple traditional, male/female marriage is a form of female slavery as well. Do we just do away with that too because it can be mismanaged in that way by a few?

What's funny about this is I'm guessing we'll get very few people who are opposed. Yet it has been a cornerstone of conk issues for awhile now. Perhaps we're not as center right as Cid1990 always claims...or was that Native.

I think many of the righties on this board are more fiscal conservative/socially moderate/libertarian vein.
I think that is accurate not only on this board but in society in general, which might explain the "center right" thought.

On this as with most similar issues I come down on the side of freedom. So "unite" at will. I have not yet decided whether the term "marraige" is appropriate but that is merely a detail.
