But you know it'd be Kent and Sussex paired with Hilltop, Southbridge, and Browntown.Ivytalk wrote:93henfan wrote:

Maryland's 1st District always cracks me up. They take the most conservative part of Maryland (the entire Eastern Shore) and then pluck some tiny specks of the most densely populated, most liberal areas to completely wipe out (or at least neutralize) an entire voting block in half the geographic area of the state.
To pair Severna Park and Salisbury is absolutely hilarious if you know the two populations well.

And I predict DE will add a second Congressional district in my lifetime. "Below the Canal" will have its own seat, as it should be.

Why do we have to protect minorities? Shouldn't we be empowering them?dbackjon wrote:Iowa has it easy - no minorities to protect

majority minority HURTS the dems.
if it weren't for m/m districts - we could REALLY gerrymander the GOP up shit creek in many states. In NY, IL, CA, NJ, OH and PA we could use urban cores that are hugely dem to tilt suburban districts safely blue- and pin the GOP down to blood-red districts of exurban and rural areas - if you just did this in those states above... dems could probably gain 15-20 seats (maybe more - I haven't run the math)

IL? The Illinois remap is about as pro-Democrat as it can possibly get. They've put as many R's in districts together as they could. The remap is a farce and makes a mockery of democracy. Illinois is a prime example of corruption and complete disdain for the citizens. We should rename the state Madiganistan after the Illinois Speaker of the House. Hopefully, voters get smart enough to kick all of the bums out of office and retake state government before they tax and spend the state into bankruptcy while chasing all of the job-producing employers away.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:not accurate.kalm wrote:

I haven't seen the new maps - I'm talking about the old maps - and the general idea that we could use Chicago and other pockets to make it even worse... as it is - with majority-minority we can't do that much...UNI88 wrote:IL? Re: Gerrymandering: This is legal why?
Some Republican and I believe Hispanic groups have taken the issue to court. I don't think they'll win but if the Democrats had gone any further, I don't think the maps would pass judicial muster. Madigan is an extremely sharp operator and he took the remap right to the limit of what he thought he could get away with.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:I haven't seen the new maps - I'm talking about the old maps - and the general idea that we could use Chicago and other pockets to make it even worse... as it is - with majority-minority we can't do that much...UNI88 wrote:

So what's wrong with the Texas districts? They follow contiguous county lines.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:Some of my favorite gerrymanders:
