Obama didn't bring it up because he knew that Romney could easily defend it. Besides, the independents and undecideds would largely agree with the 47% comment.

I doubt that. Indies and undecideds tend to have a more nuanced worldview than that.

I didn't get a chance to watch the debate - but - Sounds like good news for Romney Fans
IT would be an astounding (remarkable) feat really if he managed to win all of the debates and then successfully dethrone Obama

That would make for interesting press

Sure would, as the polls have all magically tightened now that the Right has commented on how skewed they were. Obama was up a couple of points, only to see that it was a dead heat before the debate today.

Funny, there was no reason why Romney surged in the polls.

I haven't seen many Obama people happy about last night which tells me it was very lopsided. Even PBS post-debate coverage couldn't find much positive to say about Obama.

I hope it's a close race for the entertainment value and at this point, I don't really care who wins.

The funny thing about debates is even though we've been listening to their positions for 8 years now, it's like they're a brand new candidate once the debates start. Oooh...Romney finally climbed out of his shell so I now believe everything he's been saying all along, or...just wait till Obama starts hammering Romney on the populism front in the next debate...game changer!

Has or will anything really change on the big issues? The economy is going to continue and sputter whether it's Romney cutting taxes or Obama continuing his economic policies of bubble re-inflation and a gentle landing for all. I like how Obama has suddenly discovered that jobs are going overseas and we have no industrial/trade policy that benefits the country as a whole. :ohno:

What is Romney really going to do differently with defense other than spend more on it, or perhaps listen to his neo-con appointees and push the envelope with Iran.

Drug legalization? Status quo. Immigration? Status quo. Obamacare? Throw out the bad parts but make damn well sure big pharma and for-profit insurance continue with their giant slice of the pie...etc, etc, etc.

I'll admit, I didn't watch one second of it last night. But, from all accounts it sounds like we went from a race that was basically over to one that has some interest now.

The proof will be in the next 10-14 days if Mitt makes any traction in all the swing states he's been snowballing behind in.

Eh, NPR this morning was already tilting to a pro-Obama stance on the debate. People can spin anything if they try hard enough. If it was lopsided in terms of performance, it just takes the side that didn't do as well a little longer to get the spin right before they find their footing. The GOP would be the same way if it was reversed and their candidate stumbled last night.

I always find that Romney does better in these formats where he gets to talk without following a script - he's a terrible script reader and I think that's one of the reasons he's such a dud on the campaign trail when it's just repeating the same script over and over again. He comes across as much more animated and much more knowledgeable when he's just having a conversation with the moderator or his opponent. Whether it's enough to overcome the negative aspect of his stiff approach while campaigning still remains to be seen.

I'd rather have a guy in office who's a terrible speaker but can get the job done than someone trotting out a show pony that is ineffective. Finding the combination of an effective speaker and leader is elusive. The majority of US voters get hung up on a few talking points and effectively shut down with regard to doing their own research to determine the veracity of the claims. It's pretty sad overall.

Stupid people do not watch debates. Therefore, nobody who was going to vote for Obama is switching to Romney because of the debate.
Proof positive that polls are mostly worthless is when you hear that Romney has gained ground. :ohno:

Pure pwnage.... a CEO taking an out of touch politician to school.

There's an old saying in sports, one I sure all of you have heard- you play like you practice.

What we saw last night was a politician who has lived in a cocoon for four years, protected and never challenged by his lapdog media, insulated against spontaneous thought by a teleprompter and staged press conferences with friendly reporters with canned questions, propped up by spinmeisters, get thoroughly exposed and he had nowhere to hide, nobody to cover for him, no way to spin.

He can't defend his record and he has no original thoughts. All he can do is run attack ads and hide behind his friends in the media.

The world got to see last night that Romney is anything but what the attack ads have tried to define him as. He is knowledgable- way more so than Obama, commanding, engaged, battle tested in this format, and actually has a sparkling resume of success in everything he has ever attempted.

Two more sessions like that and this will be a landslide... the media and spinmeisters can't rescue the empty chair now. It is all out there in all its glory for everybody to see.
