Who cares what the media says, nobody is stopping you from worshipping the way you wish. This whole war on religion crap is nothing but a bunch of butt hurt Christians wanking because they are getting pushback from people who don't want Christianity rammed down their throats.SeattleGriz wrote:You don't consider all the negative media play Christianity gets to be part of the war?BlueHen86 wrote:We invade countries that are primarily Muslim, and people here are complaining about atheist posters. Yeah, Christians in this country sure have it tough. War is what we did in Iraq and Afghanistan, but Christians are crying because some atheists made a poster and put up a billboard.Baldy wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:We invade countries that are primarily Muslim, and people here are complaining about atheist posters. Really? Perception dude. If people in the media are allowed free reign of pummeling Christianity, what do you think that does not only to the current state of Christianity, but their ability to bring others unto Christianity?BlueHen86 wrote:Who cares what the media says, nobody is stopping you from worshipping the way you wish. Maybe I don't see how much pro media there is out there, but I sure do notice the negative media.
If you really think it has NO effect, well then there is no reasoning with you.

To your point:
Once you get out of Seattle and Portland metropolitan areas heading east the percentage of Christians and farmers and Loggers and folksy folks is about what you'd see in nowhere's-ville Ohio or Arkansas...
It's just that huge swaths of land out west are uninhabited - wide open - and free of humans
So the state populations of Washington / Oregon / Idaho are quite small
So these rural areas that have farmers and Ranchers and Loggers and country folks are isolated
Thus: When King Country votes (Seattle) so goes the rest of the state regardless
Because King County contains 75% of Washington States entire population
So the perception is that the whole state is Liberal Microsoft Employees
It's not...

Yes, probably was sarcastic.
I have a good friend that is a Lutheran pastor on Bainbridge Island and he says that the NW of the US is the most 'unchurched' place in the US. I don't know but I'll take his word on it. But this sort of surprises me with all of the people that flocked to the NW during the Depression...including some of my relatives. Many, if not most were very "Christian' people but over the next couple of generations, religion has become 'not very important' to many there. Why is that? Pretty curious on your opinion since you live out there.

Re: Is there a War on Religion
Pretty interesting read here and the comments from people.
Do I think there is a War on Religion? In some aspects yes. I believe the non-religious crowd is getting more vocal with their opposition to 'religion'.
I just think it gets a little over the top when atheist groups want monuments taken down, nativity scenes down during Xmas, football teams not praying before a game...etc. Easy solution......ignore it....
But the fact is that a large majority of this country is 'religious' and taking religion out of everything 'public' will not work.

I'm not against people that are non-religious, people can believe what they want.

My grandmother that is 106 would tell me that when people would come to town off the train, or by wagon........to the homestead tracts of land in western ND, that the first place they would go to would be the church in town. They would be provided shelter and food while they were in transition. Neighbors helping neighbors. People helping each other out. Now days, many people do not even know their next door neighbor....

Re: Is there a War on Religion
religious folk have been waging war on non-religious folk (and folk who are members of religions other than their own) since time began.
If the non-religious folk want to launch a counter-attack, that seems fair to me.

I don't see where anyone is being denied their right to worship. You just can't force it on others. I don't think it's a war on religion so much as it's a war on policies that affect everyone .Bison Fan in NW MN wrote:Pretty interesting read here and the comments from people.

Re: Is there a War on Religion
If you want to say that Christians believe it is their duty to convince other people to believe, accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, etc., and that constitutes an attack on unbelief that's fine. They are indeed attacking and trying to eliminate unbelief.Being preached to by someone on a street corner is fine. But a little poster saying Jesus is a myth=war.
But that doesn't change the fact that there is obviously an attack on Christianity going on. And there's another thing:
When Christians are attacking unbelief their motivation is to "save" people. When that atheist organization puts those signs up at Easter time they're just being assholes. They're just trying to insult, offend and shock people. And you know that's true.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

1) There are so many diverse cultures in large enough quantities that people are exposed to the entire spectrum of humanity and its wide RELIGIONS... creating awareness
(awareness is the death of the closed mind)
1.a Single point thinking: What I know is all there is... dies slowly in the face of diversity and awareness
2) The children of immigrants (New first generation Americans) tend to adapt away from the old religion of China or Tibet or Orthodoxy etc. / The Russian kids and South East Asian kids become AMERICAN with little interest in Religion or the old world their parents come from
3) The Modern outdoor lifestyle / Skiing / Mountain Biking / SCUBA Diving / Deep woods Hiking
Leads to a generation of white kids who find church outside... and loath the old religions
I've met a hundred mountain biking skiing hiking dudes who couldn't give a flying fuck about Jesus - and these kids tend to be upper middle class descendants of two working parents and no Sunday school
4) The California Hippies bred like field mice and their children did not head east... they stayed west
