It really holds up....although the latter seasons where Alda became too introspective were a bit much for me. The "jocularity" of the earlier seasons are my favorite.

So, modern people who never owned slaves paying modern people who never were slaves. In other words, no one alive either owned or was a slave, yet we need to pay reparations? I can't find any reference to either side of my family history going back to the late 1770's where we owned anybody. Do we pay anyway?

It's simply the MSM continuing to divide the country like they have the last 8 years being pressed to do so by the progressive left.

I am fully on board with John Bolton's remedy for the UN and have been for a waste of time. We can excoriate ourselves and make empty proclamations for 1/10000th the financial commitment.

1) IF reparations were ever to happen, do you also expect all the descendants of black men that sold and owned slaves, to include the black churches, to either pay their share or forgo their share?

2) In line with the call to rename buildings and things that are named after Calhoun, Tillman, etc... would it also be appropriate for those blacks to change their names if they have a name of the slave-owning family? For instance, in Charleston there are many black families named Drayton, Rutledge or Middleton - the name of the slave-owning families. Shouldn't they change their names? You know, to shake off the yoke of oppression?

Reparations (if they ever happen...and they won't in our lifetimes...so this is a hypothetical exercise) will not take the form of individual groups or persons being exempt or culpable.

They would be in the form of a government stipend and therefore taxpayer money, which means everyone would pay (that's one irony which would kill it in the discussion phase)

The real question would be who is entitled. Fraud would be rampant as postbellum emigres to the US would be in line to receive it (there's the second irony that will also kill it)

Then it would become a perpetual entitlement, politically impossible to end.

When there is a critical mass of people calling for reparations, the Democrats will push it with the full knowledge it will not pass (and most of them won't WANT it to) with the sole intention of using it for political purposes when the Evil Republicans vote against it.
