Oh and lol at the blankets joke.
That depends. Who is doing most of the protesting?

The back-to-nature-hippie white people will wilt like begonias the moment the temperature falls below 50 degrees. Just like the Zuccotti Park occupiers.

The actual reservation people will last longer, though.

Right! I forgot that the left has switched to Putin for all blame-related issues. My bad.

Ironic that the head of Russia is drawing the ire of communists and socialists, no?

Cold weather is escalating the protest.

Grand Forks Herald Link

Between setting fires that have made a bridge impassable, throwing Molotov cocktails at law enforcement and killing local livestock, these protesters have been causing fear, terror and economic devastation.

What I've also noticed is that these eco-terrorists seem well trained and well organized, as if professionals were helping them. Who might these professionals be?

The other day, I noticed someone in Bismarck wearing a fleece vest with a logo for "Pyramid Communications" and decided to look up who they were. Pyramid is a Seattle-based communications firm that claims to give "voice to good causes." Looking further into their website, I saw that Pyramid openly touts its role in crafting and disseminating the core message of the Dakota Access Pipeline protesters.

The company brags about pushing the narrative that a pipeline is being imposed on the tribe "without upholding treaty rights or engaging in meaningful consultation." Touting its strategy to reach influencers in Washington, Pyramid takes credit for placing stories in The Hill and CNN.

Pyramid also has represented several extreme environmental organizations such as the Sierra Club and years ago, apparently, even the eco-terrorist group Greenpeace. And the company engaged in the campaign against the Keystone pipeline and celebrated its rejection as a "victory" for its clients.

I looked up the social media accounts of several Pyramid employees. And, again, I wasn't surprised with what I found. One employee has retweeted claims that equate North Dakota police actions to rape, say pipeline supporters are racist and state North Dakota law enforcement is torturing protesters.

The company is paying to relocate the tribe's water intake to a new spot 70 miles from the location of the contested pipeline crossing.

The pipeline route was adjusted based on concerns expressed by locals, including other tribal leaders, who met with company and Army Corps of Engineers officials.

Doesn't the railroad that currently carries the crude also cross over this river, albeit via a bridge? In the case of a derailment (which having a pipeline is supposed to alleviate the very real danger of a derailment and the resulting spill/fire - re: Lac Megantic) wouldn't the same drinking water be at risk? What's safer, a pipeline or the railroad bridge crossing? I know some protesters are just protesting because they don't want any oil removed from the ground, but since that's going to happen anyway this seems like the next logical question.

Super. Great logic. Anything we build anywhere is 100% guaranteed to fail eventually so why build anything (cars, houses, rocket ships, TV's, toilets, etc) if we're going to use that logic? :dunce:

Proper operation, inspection and maintenance of the pipeline would greatly reduce the risk of failure...especially farther down the life expectancy of the pipeline.

Not sure about oil pipelines, but I've designed water/wastewater force mains with leak detection/inspection appurtenances.

Saw on FB that the protesters are getting slammed with water cannons.

Bismarck Mayor tells out of state protesters to get the hail out of Dodge.

"It's time to go home to your families," Seminary said.

Seminary said most of the more than 500 people arrested during the protest come from out of state.

"Which means most of you, really, probably don't care what's left when you leave, and we understand that," Seminary said. "You've come here to make a point and you've done so effectively, but it is now time to go home. Enough is enough."

Now a young lady from New York, almost lost her arm in an explosion. Protesters say it was a police grenade, police say it was a protester homemade device.

Link

Wilansky had been handing out bottles of water to protesters when a grenade landed near her forearm. Suddenly, it detonated, according to witnesses.

"She was air lifted to County Medical Center in Minneapolis were she's currently undergoing extensive, hours-long surgery from injuries sustained from the blast," said a GoFundMe page raising money for her medical costs.

On Tuesday, North Dakota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Tom Iverson told CNN affiliate KFYR that state troopers had not deployed a grenade or any other explosive against protesters on Sunday.

"There is no merit to that," Iverson said."But I assure the citizens of North Dakota ... that law enforcement is investigating this. All the facts will be out there."

The North Dakota Joint Information Center also released photos of improvised weapons that law enforcement said protesters used against them during the confrontation at Backwater Bridge.

Authorities said they recovered a punctured propane cylinder, rocks and glass jars, which they said are commonly used to make Molotov cocktails.

Before traveling, Sheriff Champagne admitted he had the wrong impression about the pipeline based on what he called sensational news reports that the pipeline was to run directly through the Standing Rock Reservation and disturb ancient burial grounds.

Officials said Redfawn Fallis fired three shots at officers while authorities were trying to arrest her during the protests on Thursday.

According to a court affidavit, Fallis pulled a gun and shot at officers multiple times. Officials said after a brief struggle, officers were able to get the gun out of her hand and handcuff her.

Fallis also admitted to having a small amount of marijuana and brass knuckles.

Fallis has also been charged with preventing arrest, carrying a concealed firearm or weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

Understand that. The pipeline crosses the Missouri River upstream from Williston already, 265 miles away. This route was already discussed with the tribes, prior to the protest, although some tribes decided not to attend these meetings. Now we have a chitshow.
