Friday lunch in the summer. :notworthy:

I'm also a huge fan of the two ChickenMan stores in Milford. The Mills Bros just sold the business to Baker Petroleum but they are keeping the ChickenMan brand and recipe.
Gotta try those out next time we go to Second Street Players.

The potato logs are equally good. They're convenience stores, so don't go expecting any ambience.

I'm not sure what he's implying, but China has in fact moved about 100,000- 150,000 troops- mostly support and auxiliaries- down near the NK border

Likely to deal with any refugees - the minute anything even slightly destabilizes North Korea you'll be able to walk across the river on the heads of North Koreans fleeing

The fact that China is concerned is all is certainly a departure

Why does this whole thing feel like the wall in Berlin...
Russian soldiers hadn't received paychecks in months and were in some cases under fed

You can't have an unpaid starving military... and I'm guessing North Korea has some of those problems

thought that was bullshit being spread on social media? :?

What's your source?
The story spread in bond markets in New York and Asia on Monday. China, according to a rumor that circulated largely via social media, was "massing" 150,000 troops on its border with North Korea. The timing of the alleged troop movements, coupled with reports of possible U.S.-China discussions of what to do about Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal, was cited by analysts as one reason interest rates on bonds were creeping up.

Was there any substance to the rumor? Not according to senior U.S. military and intelligence officials. There was no "massing." As many as 250,000 Chinese troops are always operating in northeastern China, and the U.S. did not see any sign Beijing had moved them closer to the Yalu River, which separates North Korea from China.

Financial analysts were not surprised. Fake financial news has a longer history that any other kind of false reporting. Some people repeat rumors because they believe them to be fact. Others, however, may be tempted by the knowledge that "news" of impending doom can move markets. There is money to be made before the news is proven true or false. The advent of social media and high-speed trading just adds to the possibilities.

One Pentagon official told NBC News, in language too profane to publish, that that's exactly what he thought happened with the China troop tale.

25,000 is pretty damn big.

We only have 19 in Iowa that meet that number.
Of those 19 about 8 of them fall into the same "metro" or twin city style set up with another city on that list. Another 7 are just outside of that metro (within an hour or so)

There are only 4 on that list that are "stand alone" cities.

19k plus incorporated places in the US according to US Census.. Most are designated as towns, townships, boroughs, parishes, etc. Don't know how many are called "cities" 1k? 2k? (Are over 3k counties).
304 cities over 100k..
82 cities over 1/4 million: some would agree they are all major.
24 cities over 1/2 million: most would agree they are all major.
10 cities over 1 million: Almost everyone would agree they are all major.

While the clueless west coast fags pontificate...

Delaware has three cities (Wilmington, Newark, Dover) over 25,000.

Slower Delaware (Sussex County) has zero cities over 10,000.* I live in the metropolis of Slower DE with a whopping 9,559.

*Rehoboth is the one deceiving stat on that list. Although the year-round residency is listed as 1,327 I'd guess the population of Rehoboth/Dewey/Lewes and all rentals within 15 min drive to the beach is closer to 100,000 on a summer weekend.

Listen, BDK, I was merely questioning Ivy's use of small town when describing a place that has more than one restaurant let alone two of the same. As you can see, it's perfectly debatable. At least more debatable than what Chizzy meant by Portland.

I use Stratfor mostly (I pay for it) and Edinburgh Risk has something on it as well (I get a sitrep from them - I started getting it in 2004 and I didn't have to pay for it because an ER employee signed me up)

The NBC report, like the original claim that China was massing troops on the border, are misleading.

China isn't massing combat troops on the border (not 100,000 anyway). They have actually shifted about 2000 combat troops as monitors to the banks of the Yalu. They have moved significantly more than that in support and logistics personnel into the Shenyang district (or whatever they call it) - medical personnel, etc, and those are positioned to respond to a sudden rush of refugees. That's the 100,000 or so.

NBC is correct in "debunking" the suggestion that China has moved hundreds of thousands of troops to the border as some kind of invasion army. But NBC suggesting that China has not shifted troops to the region is also not accurate.

They are doing the same contingency planning they always do when Pyongyang beats the drum. If China wanted to invade they wouldn't telegraph it by putting a large number of combat troops on the river. But to respond to a refugee crisis they do need to be well placed ahead of time. No doubt the movements were exaggerated by someone hoping to influence markets, but the story isn't total BS.

Well, that is a pretty sharp contrast to the CitGrad post I was referring to.
CitadelGrad wrote:Now the Chinese media editorials are threatening a military solution to destroy NK's nuke program before the U.S. is able to.

They are also hinting that the U.S. will decapitate the NK leadership with air power, then China will launch an invasion of NK.

Those 150k Chinese soldiers on the Yalu ain't there to process NK refugees.
