Tennessee is a much smaller state and it's being funded by the lottery. :thumb:
Much like South Carolina and it's been successful

The poor could use more taxes :thumb:
That's the thing about a lottery. It's a voluntary tax.

I try to avoid bagging my yard. The city has a place where we can dump sticks and clippings at no charge. Or I can put them in the back of my truck and drive out in the country with the tailgate down and let them blow all over.

Same as the casino business here in Delaware, but the Dems in power are finally beginning to realize that "bottomless well" is running dry.

But I'm wondering how long it will be before we start hearing complaints that it's discouraging minorities away from four-year colleges so that they can make good livings as plumbers, welders, X-ray technicians, and in other jobs that liberal elites look down on.

You know it's going to happen, too. Don't even act like it won't.
The horror! How will we, as a society, survive with more technical/skilled labor and fewer Women's Studies majors.

Tennessee has no state income tax aside from investment income.....yet. They already have a 7% sales tax which I expect will go up. Somebody has to open their collective wallets to pay for "free" anything.
See Ibanez's post below yours. Will Tennessee businesses that benefit from "free training" of future employees open up their collective wallets and pay the state back or will they be fine with the arrangement?
Eh, you know my position - forget about taxing businesses altogether - simply make sure every person pays an income tax and also ensure that the wealthy and well-connected can't hide their income inside the business (that's the hard part, as they can afford the better tax lawyers, but now that you're not spending time trying to make sure that businesses are paying a tax you have time to make sure a wealthy guy isn't hiding all of his income in the business). You get rid of a whole layer of complication by no longer taxing the business and you make sure everyone pays their fair share.

Agreed. Hence why kids feel the need to move on almost right away to a graduate degree to set them apart from the rabble with Bachelor's degrees. Thank goodness we have all these not-for-profit colleges and universities that aren't taking advantage of this dilemma and making a fortune off of it. :coffee:

Learn to read tom....I'm for more technical degrees and less LGBT Ecuadorian studies majors.
I've said it many times that not everyone needs a 4 yr degree.

Great! So it's not government's job to provide free training for future employees, it's the business's job.

Sounds like a great trade off!

And, for a lot of jobs... your major only matters much for your first job. If you have a liberal arts degree - it can be hard to break into a career... but, if you're able to get the first job and some experience... noone gives a damn about your degree.

Obviously, there are a lot of degrees that you need a specific or related degree to ever be considered. An LGBT Ecuadorian studies major is not going to get a job as an engineer or something.
