I think for many the issue with birth control is that they believe some forms of birth control allow for fertilization followed by failure to allow continuation of development. That is not an "abortion" because abortion refers to pregnancy. And as I understand it it's not a pregnancy until implantation. So the idea is that, though it is not technically "abortion," it is in some instances ending a life.
