McCain could be a flaming asshole at times - and he has been frequently wrong on foreign policy (he's a hawk ALL the time)

But he has faithfully served his country- and has sacrificed more than just about anyone who didn't actually die

And most importantly- like 90% of all the rest of the politicians - he usually has done those things that he thought were in the best interests of the country (right or wrong)

It is obvious that his career is coming to an end - it is time to be gracious

Best hopes for McCain. I suspect he will give it his best fight.

I've always liked McCain -- even more so when he was bulldozed by the Bush Cabal. I didn't appreciate his brown-nosing of the Falwell bunch in '02 or so but it was obvious he was gearing-up for another run at the WH. Sure -- he was a Hawk-extraordinaire but I suspect a bit of 'show' there. Someone has to play the guy/gal who always wields the Big Stick - Anytime/Anywhere shtick.

I REALLY appreciated McCain/Feingold and his anti-pork/tax break efforts. It's a shame he bought into the Palin Fail but as it turns out, Obama was the best guy to move the country beyond the Bush/Cheney disaster(s), anyway.

McCain is the motivation behind my anti-pork/tax break deficit reduction future. Rip out those special line item appropriations and half of the $1,500 billion/yr in tax expenditures from the Looters and Special Interests, minimize the deficit, reduce debt 'maturity' and codify annual pork ...

Yes! Seriously-

I think about 90% of the politicians THINK they are doing what in their own minds is in the best interests of the country-

I agree with about exactly none of them

But when a dude is about to head off to the old dirt nap (and he is) it is time to take into consideration the constructive contributions

There will be plenty of time to make the guy into a diabolical imp 25 years from now (as we all will be)
