Thankfully - the Presidents budget (any president) is essentially DOA when it arrives at Congress. Thankfully both parties see how terrible his budget is.
Government social programs don't just enable the recipients, they help drive consumption.

Let's take this opportunity to expand on this statement because it seems that it could fall anywhere on the map.
Please help define the location a little better.

EG: without a SS check, many elders would be living with their kids. The fact they can afford their own housing helps the rental/retirement home market.

Re: To Chop or Not Chop
Some of that has to do with their parents fucking up the economy and not retiring when they should. Or having to postpone retirement b/c their generation (baby boomers) tanked the economy as we were graduating college and looking for work and they lost considerable portions of their retirement income.CAA Flagship wrote:Without decent jobs, many kids are living in their parents' basement.kalm wrote:

In my mind, doing these things will do far more to get budget under control:
1. Get health care costs under control to lessen costs of medicare and medicaid.
2. Stop wasteful military procurement and spending.
3. Social Security changes (paying SS on all income and raising retirement age).
4. Lower corporate tax rates and close loopholes.
Then again, If they'd just stop taking money from SS to pay for other ****, the program would be solvent as it stands.
5. Pay back what Congress stole from SS.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

Chop.2. The Rural Business and Cooperative Service, which provides loans, grants and payments intended to increase opportunities in rural communities.

Keep.12. The Chemical Safety Board, which is tasked with investigating accidents at chemical facilities.

I doubt if the Chops would save much money relative to the size of the Federal budget though.
