It might help a SJW understand why some cultures prospered and others didn't...and it has nothing to do with racial superiority.
I read that book

It is a really big opinion piece - and you'll find it on many SJW's bookshelves because there are many ways to take it

the literate ones, who have bookshelves, that is

As with any book from academia, it should be read with an open mind.

Which might be an anathema to the current generation.

It reminds me of all those Sun Tzu books on peoples' coffee tables in the 1980s

90% of them never read it (like the Bible) but they want you to see they have it- proudly displayed

its hip - which immediately makes me cautious

Interesting...
According to conservative commentator George Will in 2017:

Witness became a canonical text of conservatism. Unfortunately, it injected conservatism with a sour, whiney, complaining, crybaby populism. It is the screechy and dominant tone of the loutish faux conservatism that today is erasing [William F.] Buckley’s legacy of infectious cheerfulness and unapologetic embrace of high culture. Chambers wallowed in cloying sentimentality and curdled resentment about “the plain men and women” — “my people, humble people, strong in common sense, in common goodness” — enduring the “musk of snobbism” emanating from the “socially formidable circles” of the “nicest people” produced by “certain collegiate eyries.”[42]
It's easy to forget there are still right-wing coastal elites too....

I didn’t find it “sour or whiney.” Nor did Bill Buckley himself, who was strongly influenced by it. It is a powerful work. Will is a prissy old schoolmarm. He has become increasingly whiney with age.

I dunno for sure because I just picked it due to the title and being popular. I have a book titled "Elementary Statistics," 2nd Edition, copyrighted in 1976 and it's good so I searched for that title.

I looked at the table of contents for the book in the image I posted though and it does have a section on "Surveys and Questionnaire Design."
