Are over 7.6 billion people in the world. If 75% didn't have shelter/food/clean running water & only 25% did, only about 1.9 billion would have it.

There are over 2.2 billion on Facebook (and not everyone who has shelter/food/clean running water is on Facebook).

I think we've lost sight of the forest for the trees. The underlying message regardless of the exact numbers is that we've got it pretty good here.
Agree on that. We've got some of richest "poor" people in the world.

It's because of capitalism and people like Trump

No. That kind of stuff is not because of capitalism and I think you know that. It's because we live in a country that has struck a reasonable balance between pure capitalism and government intervention. It might not be THE perfect balance. But I think it's at least pretty close to the best balance that's been struck by any nation.

Nice. But we all need to realize that when we drink tap water feeling it's safe, eat food feeling it's safe, take a drug feeling that it's safe and effective...that confidence is due to the system of government we have. It's not perfect and it's not zero risk. But when it comes to that kind of stuff there is no place in the world that is as good at it as the United States is.

Just ask German mothers of the 1950s about Thalidomide.

Just ask the residents of Flint, MI. :coffee:

I said it's not perfect. Mistakes have been made. But I think the public health system in the United States is the best in the world by far. I'm talking about the system that makes it unlikely that you're going to get sick after you eat food at a restaurant or buy food from a store. The system that makes it, yes, unlikely that you will get sick due to the water you drink. The system that validates the safety and effectiveness of drugs.

I've seen what entities like the European Union do. And the European Union is better than the rest of the world outside of the US. The US is #1 in this regard and it's not close.

Has anybody else ever wondered if JSO and Houndy could get stuck in a feedback loop?

JSO with some drivel - then Houndy with some brainless drive-by - then JSO takes him seriously and makes a longer reply, the Houndy is encouraged by someone taking him seriously for once, and doubles down with a longer, but equally brainless reply, which JSO also takes seriously

it could happen, people - sort of like the retard edition of an immovable object meeting the irresistible force

It could bring down the server

I’m guessing Dems until Snyder started appointing emergency managers and advisory boards. It sounds like there was plenty of blame to spread across both aisles.

Honestly, to me, it looks like the crisis was associated with a Republican Governor taking control from local government and moving to using water from the Flint river while local authorities were trying to use water from Lake Huron.

Ok let's ignore the question of which party was responsible for creating the situation because it undermines our desire to blame as much as we can on the other party and make sure them look bad.
