No need to change football. Does anyone really care how long a yard is, any more than the distance between bases in baseball, or the distance from the pitcher's rubber to the plate? Keep everything the same. Still call it yards. It'll make football seem old and quaint like baseball already is.

Europeans have no trouble making 10' high baskets or putting pucks in a 4'x6 net.' Call the measurements anything you want.

I never took you as a drama queen before.
So just keep everything in standard units then for sports? What are we talking about changing then? Most of the stuff in industry is already metric anyway. What has to go metric that's really not metric now?

You're serious?

Do you drive a car?

I get it. You're arguing just to argue. It's what you do.

I guess that's what was different in my family. I didn't have any brothers to argue with and my sister was young enough never be in the same school or school bus as me. As such. I never felt a need to constantly bicker and argue over everything. Meanwhile, my dad is one of four brothers, all very close in age. They argue about everything. It's stupid, but funny as hell.

It may sound a little odd until you actually see those three things in use, which I've done three times in the past two years. I generally use a credit card or an app for most payments, but when I did have to use cash in Canada, I saw that making change is a lot faster with a $1 and $2 coin and no pennies. Seeing it was believing it.

Also, Canada has gone to plastic bills instead of paper. I'm not sure of the feasibility or cost effectiveness of that here, but plastic bills look really cool.
Getting rid of the penny will give retailers an excuse to round up to the nearest nickel. Call it inconvenient all you want but we all know that is what will happen.

Retailers set a profit goal and then apply pricing accordingly. The penny's elimination isn't going to change that.

You're a big anti-government guy. Doesn't it concern you that it costs 50% more than a penny to make a penny? That would be the math I'd be most concerned about.

Since our wonderful gubmint just fires up the printers and "makes" more cash, no, no the fact that a penny costs more than a penny to make means little. :coffee:

Alrighty then. I'll take that as an "I don't mind government wastefulness so I can have my penny."

Seems legit.

Of all the waste in the fed gubmint, getting rid of the penny is about 1645693 down on the list.v

There is some interesting legislation being introduced this year.

A few of my favorites:
H.R.1111 - To establish a Department of Peacebuilding, and for other purposes.

H.R.1127 - To posthumously award a Congressional gold medal to Mahatma Gandhi in recognition of his contributions to the Nation by the promotion of nonviolence. :suspicious: What a waste of time.

*CLITZ TRIGGER WARNING* H.R.1096 - To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to provide for open internet requirements for providers of broadband internet access service.

H.R.1083 - To require the Secretary of the Treasury to redesign $20 Federal reserve notes so as to include a likeness of Harriet Tubman, and for other purposes.
HR 1111 - a whole department dedicated to bashing Israel - nice

I support 1083

I like the Tubman idea, but replace someone else. Jackson played a huge role in ensuring America's win the War of 1812.

Getting rid of the penny will give retailers an excuse to round up to the nearest nickel. Call it inconvenient all you want but we all know that is what will happen.
So there won’t be any more $4.99 specials at KFC. OMG. BFD.

But would we have to raise 6.93 to 6.95?

The Battle of New Orleans was after the British surrendered. It played no role in the outcome of the war.

I look forward to you doubling down on your dumbass post by arguing that the Battle if Horseshoe Bend was the turning point of the war. :dunce:

I think what Junior Jelly meant to say was that the battle occurred before the news of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent reached the US.

But Old Hickory certainly did kick their asses up over their shoulders in New Orleans.

I agree, I like the choice of Tubman. You normally just think Underground Railroad with her but she was tremendously more than that. Jackson has been there long enough.
Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln & Franklin have been on their current denominations longer than Jackson has been on the $20, and Hamilton and Grant have been on their respective denominations as long.

Washington 1869 went onto the $1
Jefferson 1869 went onto the $2
Lincoln 1914 went onto the $5
Franklin 1914 went onto the $100
Hamilton: 1929 went onto the $10
Jackson 1929 went onto the $20
Grant 1929 went onto the $50

There was a stalemate, both countries send dignitaries to negotiate a peace in Ghent.

But yes, The Battle of New Orleans didn't do anything to end the war. It occurred about 2-3 weeks after the Treaty of Ghent was signed.
