When I was a young lawyer, I served on the New Castle County board of canvass to certify the 1980 election results. That’s where judges would hear challenges to ballots, voter registrations, and the like. What I remember most are the write-in names. A local gadfly named Llovable Lloyd Teitsworth, who wrote lots of sarcastic letters to the editor, got about 3 votes for POTUS that year. Also the usual smattering of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.
Mema usually got 1-2 votes for local office.

Careful about writing your own name in there, you could end up as a township auditor! :coffee:

Our town council elections are nonpartisan. I’ve toyed with that.

Township auditor in my township is now basically ceremonial - an outside company actually does the audit. I get a 200 page writeup with data that I can look at when they're done though.

On the bright side, since I'm networking now, I've been offered a chance to maybe sit on the Township Sewer Board - not an elected position but that's where the feces really hits the fan! Plus, I could actually use my ChemE degree for a change!

Third parties have been my safety valve for the last three elections but now it is looking like I may not vote if there isn’t a good LP candidate.

At the end of the day, if I detect even the slightest hint of vapid, retail politics I’m out of there

I *could* vote for Yang. He understands what we are facing in Asia and I’m fairly sure he would continue with most of Trump’s practices re: China. But he won’t be nominated and so China will remain a second tier issue for most Americans (until it is too late)

Slight tangent, but that idea has popped into my head. I'm 8 years from retirement and trying to figure out where I'm going to relocate to. I just can't deal with Delaware in the summer any more. I was kind of high on West Virginia until I saw that they tax pensions and social security, so I had to scratch WV off my list. The only problem with PA is that the amount of property I want will probably be too expensive. I'll probably have to look at some of the low-tax flyover states like South Dakota and Wyoming. There's also the South, but much of it has the same problem as Delaware: too many freaking transplants (and yes, I see the irony in complaining about transplants when considering retirement destinations).

Chizzang wrote:And where is the $4,000 each household Trump promised us from his massive tax cut that benefited corporations and the wealthy enacted in 2017?!

It didn’t trickle down to us, it stayed in the corporate board room with Trump’s big donors.
https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-mete ... lthiest-1/

As the Congressional Research Service found recently, Trump’s tax cut resulted in corporate profits that “grew faster than wages" and worse, "ordinary workers had zero growth in wage rates."

The real-world result is that wage growth in virtually non-existent. In 2019, after you subtract inflation of nearly 2 percent, the average American worker will see a net wage increase of slightly over 1 percent. One percent!

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-tax-cuts ... ty-1464048
So we have 3+% wage growth that exceeds inflation by over 1%. Sounds like a good thing.

I think SC is planning to stop taxing vets, could your retirement count as that?

The key to states like NC is to find the towns with the transplants and then move to the next town over.

So take Boone for example. It is now full of cunts. But go halfway through the woods to West Jefferson and there’s a lot of area along the New River near a town called Todd. Wonderful area, low cunt ratio, and occasionally a little property will pop up

West Jefferson is nice too but the cunts have found it

WV has low property taxes though (46th in nation according to tax rates.org)
http://www.tax-rates.org/taxtables/prop ... x-by-state

What about Tennessee?
-In 2022 with be the 8th state with zero income tax (like S Dakota & Wyoming you mentioned). Right now they have no earned income tax, but do tax investment income (Hall tax), which will be phased out by 2021
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_income_tax
-Property taxes 38th.
-High sales tax is the only knock. State sales tax 7%, with local between 8.5% and 9.75%

Low tax overall, 48th in the below ranking (with data thats 2-3 years old& their Hall tax only partially phased out).

They are more angry and pissed at the "liberals" than ever before and Trump is not an embarrassing lesser of two evils...he's their white knight.
I have also noticed the same rhetoric. And would put forth the assessment that it is not Trump making himself into that "white knight" (even though he thinks it is his doing) but the Dems and what they support and how they are supporting their agenda that is driving people to see him as their best option. The Dems had a pretty simple task and one that is almost impossible to screw up considering who their opponent is. But they seem to keep on doubling down on stupid antics and somehow are coming across as worse then Trump is.

All they had to do was take it slow and provide a candidate somewhat in the middle and I think they still could win the election but none of the current candidate (outside of Biden and he has his own issues) are reasonably close. The American public has a attention span similar to the half-life of a carbon-15 isotope and they could of easily provided a middlish candidate with enough good publicity that people would remember to at least challenge Trump.

ND (outside of Fargo) is pretty much solid Trump. And as for me, I am waiting to see what Third Party candidate decides to make a serious effort at it and go from there. This might be the first year I do a write in (89 would be a viable candidate :thumb: ) but I do know I will never vote Dem in anything on a National ballot just based on their actions since Trump was elected.

Well, having spent a little time in SD last year, it would have to be in some pocket of the state that is not in the vast expanse of prairie grassland. Good lord was 3/4 of that state ever boring as all hell. Makes Iowa seem like the rainforest in comparison. The most interesting part of SD is obviously the southwest quadrant, but Uncle Sam and Injuns obviously own a lot of that. I'm sure there are other cool pockets, which I'd need to research. There are supposedly some cool communities along the Missouri River.

Wherever I end up, it has to be distinctly different than Slower Delaware (that's current Slower Delaware, not the one I grew up in). Can't be table flat. Can't have a bunch of people from NY/NJ/PA/DC/MD/VA fucking it all up. Can't be 90F, humid as balls, and mosquito/green fly-ridden from May through September.

Basically, I want to get the fuck away from people. I hate people.
