Yes when I go to the store or something I do because that's the recommendation and also because that's what my wife wants me to do. However, I do worry that the CDC changes its recommendation on wearing masks due to public perception pressure rather than honestly assessing that telling people to wear masks will lower overall risk. I think their rationale was always that, yes, if all other things are equal wearing masks lowers risk. But I think they assessed that wearing masks would change behavior in ways that would increase the risk beyond the level the masks themselves offer. And I don't think anything changed information wise to explain them changing their position.

This is actually what prompted me to start the poll. Seeing more and more of that around here - person alone in a car with a mask on.
The only time I wear it in the car is if I have multiple close stops - it is just easier to leave it on for those - i.e gas station then grocery store.
I can see that. But I'm seeing people wearing them out in the middle of nowhere Iowa driving down the highway. :?

You will not see me wearing a mask in my car alone. The only time I put one on is when I go into a store and I primarily do it to make other people feel comfortable. Also my wife.

As soon as they recommended it. Purchased 4 from a lady who made them. Stores were out if masks at that point.

Found a nice new N95 I didn't even know I had.

Only indoors for shopping. Never outside because that's just stupid. And when I wear one only a N95 because anything less than that is pointless.

I know Dback. I have met Dback. I had 5 beers with Dback. I consider him a friend (something I don't take lightly)

Dback doesn't have ears.

JALMOND wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 2:35 pm No, but I am afraid the government will force me to shortly. From what I've seen with people with masks, it is the equivalent to the idiot who thinks he is fine to drive 65 on icy roads just because he is in a 4-wheel drive. People constantly fidgeting with the mask, touching their nose and mouth, not covering their nose and/or mouth, and never cleaning it. Also, people with masks have no problem with getting right on top of you in the stores and not maintaining the required social distancing, even when there is enough room to keep 6 feet away.

I was in a deli shop getting a sandwich and a person had a mask on and sneezed right in the mask, then proceeded to constantly touch it while he was waiting for his sandwich. How is that not spreading the virus? Oh but I have a mask on so I am fine. Really?

That said, I will probably be forced to wear a mask by the government. I also would consider wearing a mask if they would ease some restrictions.
Jalmond gets it.

Oh, and No, I’m not wearing a mask. At any point. San Antonio just mandated it for public places but I’m sheltering in Llano County.

And I see lots of people in San Antonio (been down there 3-4 times since this started) NOT wearing masks....

Inside stores (grocery, hardware, c-stores) here in PA. State law the last 11 days. Prior to that I did wear one 1 day about 3 1/2 weeks ago in a trip to Walmart & the grocery store, after the WH press conference/CDC started recommending the wearing of them. Never outside

The wearing of masks isn‘t my complaint. Its the stay at home and closing of so called “non essential”..

I saw my first masked person in Nebraska. A guy driving a van down I-80, on March 9. The same weekend the first cases hit Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. I was driving back to Minnesota from a weekend in the Cornhusker state.

The mask is to reduce the spread of corona, not to prevent it. Many people don't know they have COVID-19 and are spreading it before they have symptoms. My buddy that has corona, was working at Walmart Tuesday, that means he probably shedding a few of the invisible enemy, as Trump calls it, around Wally World.

Nope will not be wearing one.

Costco is the only store around here that requires one.

I only shop there about once a month anyway so so it isn't a big deal for me to shop elsewhere.

Stopped at Lowes yesterday to pickup a curbside order. Place was packed with people. Probably 75 % not wearing masks.

As somebody who has done SCBA testing for a number of years (I was the lead Workplace Safety Committee member for our entire facility at my previous job) along with QNFT/QLFT (quantitative fit test/qualitative fit test) of other types of masks, seeing all these homemade masks and how people wearing them makes me chuckle. The amount of blowby/leakage on them basically makes it like you are not even wearing a mask at all. A good fit is one where it is not comfortable to be wearing it.

A N95 mask is the only one (outside of a full sealed can type respirator) that does anything, and that is only if it is fitted properly. The rest are barely effective at best and at worst just a placebo.

Yup, similar experiences here - the main reason why we didn't have masks in place before was basically due to the science of it - wearing masks like we're wearing them have no measurable benefit. The science is pretty clear on that. Like you said, there are gaps all over the place on these masks, people aren't trained in using masks so you see people continually touch them and adjust them with their hands and then touch other things without disinfecting, and these masks aren't going to stop the small particles of moisture that come from breathing, coughing, or sneezing while wearing the masks. But we're not really a society that does well in science, so these details aren't really welcomed. Masks are like a feel good placebo - you think you're adding to the general good even if what you're doing is pretty negligible. Positive thoughts.
