I guess I'm getting pragmatic in mid-life. I used to be 100% against but now I believe that there are some, a few, motherfuckers out there that just need killed. That said, he is obviously someone who can never be free to roam, ever again- and that begs the question if it is appropriate to keep him alive until he dies naturally.
Being against the death penalty seems to be the easiest position to defend from the moral and libertarian standpoint, but it gets less so in the pragmatic, utilitarian view.
