I'm still holding my position in Pepsi (PEP)...for now.

Tracking JNJ, ERF, DPS, T, BBT and YUM for when the bottom falls out completely. GE, I'm still happy I took my money and ran, lol.

Why do Conks only bump this thread on days where the market does poorly? Surely y'all aren't rooting against the US economy are y'all? :? :|

The market will be in the 8000s by October....
Sure thing.

If market never closes below 8999 by the first of October, I get a UMASS hat.
If market ever closes below 8999 by the first of October, you get an App hat.

Deal?

And, for full disclosure... I have a pretty good record in these sorts of bets.
I'm feeling pretty good about this bet as well. :D

Dow in 8000's by the end of September isn't looking too likely. :coffee: :hump: :finger:

Yup. I said it's not likely... and a major event dropping the Dow 1200 points over the next month isn't likely. :thumb:

Yep. I'm think we're going to have to call this thread a fail unless the Dow can manage to lose about 2,000 points in the next four weeks. Not impossible I guess, but not looking too likely either.

Jelly, it may take a week or two to get you the hat...

First I have to order it...then it needs to get to my house...

Then I have to give it the full "Appaholic Treatment"...

Then I'll send it your way...

For the same (only opposite) reason you only bump it on the days where the market goes up.

So, what you're saying, Z, is that Conks are into childish games of tit-for-tat more than they are for substantive, adult discourse on the issues, correct?

I did. I made a lot of money on it and sold it. Don't get greedy Jeff - it could be back down to $100 a share very quickly.

Perhaps we shouldn't judge this too soon....

“We see two main scenarios,” analysts led by Jan Hatzius, the New York-based chief U.S. economist at the company, wrote in an e-mail to clients. “A fairly bad one in which the economy grows at a 1 1/2 percent to 2 percent rate through the middle of next year and the unemployment rate rises moderately to 10 percent, and a very bad one in which the economy returns to an outright recession.”
I still think by year-end the market will be in trouble.

So the markets are up 12% since August. When exactly were they supposed to crash?

Let's see. Beginning of summer is what, June 21st? Looks like they're up about 7% since then. That's just looking at a 6-month graph and eyeballing it. I could be a few points off, but there was a clear gain, since you asked.

Wall Street generally considers May as the beginning of summer.

OK. Way up since Memorial Day too. :?

My only point was to note that the market crash portended by this thread never materialized. That is all. Of course, I guess the Dow could drop 1,000 points a week for the next four weeks, but I'm guessing it won't. ;)
