All those things poll great, that is, until you get into the nitty gritty of how to pay for any of those things and how they actually work in practice. Abstractly, all those things sound great - free everything for everybody. Why wouldn't that poll well? The problems come when the promises can't be delivered.JohnStOnge wrote:What they've got going for them is that most people want Trump out. Steve Bullock is about to declare
He’s a Dem I could vote for
But he doesn’t check the racial/gender purity box so I doubt I’ll get the chance
It is looking more and more like it will be a Colander Head 2020

Another "no shit, Sherlock" post from JSO. The majority don't fucking pay federal taxes, so of course they support free shit provided by the federal government. And of course they support soaking the rich to pay for that "free" shit. As a wise woman once said, the problem with this philosophy is that "eventually you run out of other peoples' money"...JohnStOnge wrote:SDHornet wrote: Also, I think the general population might be farther to the left than some may think. They do not always win. We just had an illustration of that in the mid term House elections. And, BTW, even though it was a good Senate election for Republicans because they flipped some seats the Democrats still won 22 of the 33 Senate races. And they had a large edge in the overall popular vote.mainejeff wrote:But somehow they always win. They are great at rigging the system. Conservative judges are everywhere now. We're in a transitional period. If things keep going the way they are going trend wise the Democrats are going to achieve dominance.

So, regarding this:Pwns wrote:So is Schultz going to be the Bloomberg Republican and be strong pro-business, pro Wall Street while being pro gun control, pro immigration, and pro abortion? That's about the worst thing you could possibly be in presidential politics right now. That'll sell about as well as Coexist bumper stickers in no-go areas of London.
The sad thing is that if we end up with Trump versus a whackadoodle donk I might have to vote for him.

“Centrist extremists” is a misnomer. They are not extreme in the least. They just feel the best chance to win elections lies in preserving the economic status quo through election financing. That makes them moderate conservatives, a declining species which we used to refer to as “Republicans”.Col Hogan wrote:Here’s what “progressives” are saying...Why the centrist extremists are an incredibly dangerous political animal...

Here’s a hint...there are many liberals who don’t see eye to eye with the establishment on the basis of being anti-crony capitalism. Just like there are some principled libertarian leaning conservatives who feel the same about the Republican Party.
