Here's what we need to know:
Why has the FDA granted approval for compassionate use of the drug for COVID? This could be the REAL conspiracy.

If Trump forced the FDA to do it based on media reports, that's a problem. Did he do this in order to provide any "good" news he could muster?

If Trump is just expanding on the FDA's expert advice (compassionate use), then all he is doing is spreading hope to people. Should he give hope? For some it acts as a safety net, and for others it makes them buy more toilet paper and soup. Not sure if this is a major problem. Unless you hate Trump.
Giving hope is one thing.

Giving hope with an unproven drug that the experts say need more study is totally different. That's false hope. :twocents:

and secondly, I'm still waiting for the proper procedure (from the procedures guy)
on the dissemination of medical information regarding specific prescription drugs on a global level

If there was any doubt that the Republican Party has become a filthy, corrupt institution they were erased by the fact that the Wisconsin Republican Party would not agree to postpone today's voting. I am not saying the courts were wrong. Don't know.

But Wisconsin's Governor went to the Republican controlled legislature of the State to ask for extension and they refused. And we all know why they refused.

Honestly don't see how any person of good conscience can support the Republican Party right now.

That the model is over shooting real life numbers? Naw, I totally get it. The model is busted even after it is adjusted to include current deaths.

And 2 pages of mutual fund arguments and no pointers on what to invest in? :ohno:
1) It's a projection that over time is using increasingly more and more data. It started with the data of 1 country and now includes most others.
2) Waffles are recession proof.
The problem is when the model is revised, it should be identical for the days where data exists. The fact that the model doesn't, or can't, means that it isn't worthwhile.

Huh? They literally update the model that doesn't match the deaths that are released THE SAME DAY as the update. You realize that makes no sense right?

Tim Pool's take on the "Trump pedaling medication to cash in" narrative. The fact that he laughs at it and Chizzy and kalm are taking the narrative up as gospel tells me its just another weak ass Orange Man Bad narrative.

Good discussion in this one about the possibilities of an antibody test (basically a blood test to see if you've ever had the virus) and that being a marker to allow people back to work. Does bring up the point that we assume the virus is more widespread than we know today, but we could find out that possibly very few people have actually been exposed. Would also bring up the idea that we start inoculation camps (like they did with smallpox back in the day) and purposely infect people with smaller doses of the virus to allow them to build up immunity. Certainly things to think about as social distancing isn't viable for the next 12-18 months while we wait on the vaccine.

Interesting article from the BBC regarding the impact of closing schools and how it relates to spread of the virus. Basic gist is that there is little impact on the spread of the virus by closing schools. Makes the argument we should open schools earlier than later as the impact of keeping schools closed (especially among parts of the population that don't have enough internet access to properly do online learning) is greater than the benefit of closing them.

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52180783
The research, published in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, looked at 16 studies - some based on the spread of coronavirus, and others on seasonal flu and the 2003 Sars outbreak. The findings suggest:
◾While school closures help during influenza outbreaks, the same may not apply to coronavirus
◾Data from the Sars outbreak (in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore) suggest that school closures did not contribute to the control of the epidemic
◾Recent modelling studies of Covid-19 predict that school closures alone would prevent only 2%-4% of deaths, many fewer than other social distancing interventions

If we believe what we say when we say our federal system of government leads to at least 50 laboratories of different government, there will be a reckoning when all of this is over regarding what went wrong in NY, and in NYC specifically. I understand the concept of it being vastly more population dense than anywhere else in the US and that more people flow through that city than other US cities, but even those explanations don't seem to account for why they are so significantly more impacted than other parts of the US. I know Cuomo has said what's happening in NY is just going to roll across the rest of the US, but I don't think that's likely.

Agree CA leadership is nowhere near as shitty as NYC's and the early stay at home orders played a large part in it, but this article is a fluff piece. No mention of the 4200 ventilators the state was sitting on and couldn't use because of lack of maintenance. Thankfully private companies came through (yay capitalism). And this statement is completely false:
There are "no longer any limits" on who can apply to be tested, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Monday, explaining that the county is scrapping prerequisites such as being older than 65, underlying medical conditions and weakened immune systems.
At least here in Sac, you can't get tested unless you are showing symptoms.

Who knows what a more detailed investigation will uncover, but early on NYC's leadership didn't take it seriously and even encouraged people to go about their lives. It's quite appalling to be honest.
