US spy agencies were tracking the rise of the novel coronavirus as early as November, weeks before that information was included in President Donald Trump's daily intelligence briefing, a former US military official told CNN.

While the exact date of the first report remains unclear, sources told CNN that intelligence gathered in November and in the weeks following offered multiple early warnings about the potential severity of the pandemic now surging in the US.
Untrue.

DIA confirms there was no such reporting.

The first confirmed case in China was tracked to 17 November and the Chinese didn’t even realize what they had until a couple weeks later

I’d like to know who this “former US military official” is because anyone with common sense and a rough ability to do timelines know this is complete bullshit.

This just goes to further show that when these news agencies lead with anonymous “former” officials you’re about to be fed a pile of shit

The concern is local and state tax revenue taking a serious hit to fund these things. As most of us know, they can’t simply print more money. Again...tip of the iceberg as far federal bailouts go.

I think the wording of the denial is very careful. Also, if CNN says they have a former military official saying that I do not doubt that they have a former military official saying that.

It wasn't CNN. It was ABC. And if they don't give the person's name, its likely BS.

After all, this is the Fake News network that said a video from a KY gun range, was a video of a massacre in Syria..

I know you are predisposed to give credence to anything, however minute, that could be a criticism of the current administration

in that respect you’re pretty much a bot now

But this story is complete bullshit. There was no such reporting from any intelligence agency when this “former official” says it happened

The report was supposed to have come from the NCMI which is part of the DIA. They went back and looked all the way to the on ground reporting - and there was nothing.

So yeah, I am sure that ABC has a “former military official” who is feeding them bullshit and they are all too happy to run with it

There is no scenario in which this story is true but it sure is tailor made for you, JSO. An intel agency actually speaking up about NOT having detected something, based on a media report using an anon source who amazingly is no longer a part of the organization...with a timeline that defies logic...

You really have become a bot, John

For all the Monday morning QB’s....
State of things— Trump had said previously that the death toll was headed to 100k - 200k. Scientists in the WH are still holding that. But a new model the WH and many people pay attention to are now saying 60k.

There is also a secret “Grand Princess” model I will touch on.5/
Trump has said the numbers “could have been” 2 million. And the Imperial College had put out higher numbers.

First question— if it comes out at 60 or 100-200, how could ppl have been so wrong? Or if it comes out higher, how could ppl be so wrong? 6/
The answer? That is exactly how exponential math works.

If 1 person infects 2.3 people on average, after 10 cycles 4100 are infected. But if one person infects only 1.3 people on average, only 14 people are infected. 7

You can't trust any of the numbers. Spain, for instance, has 1000s more deaths which they are pretty sure are COVID-19 or b/c of COVID-19. However, because the dead didn't test positive (or were tested at all) those deaths aren't counted. COVID-19 is essentially hastening the end for many people who are already sick, old, weak, etc... If it's a contributing factor I think it should be counted.

I don't know if other states do this but when I saw my fathers death certificate it listed a primary and secondary cause (one disease caused another). I'm sure that is what is going on here and therefore people think the numbers are inflated (when in reality, they're much less).

Well sure. Timing is everything.
It's like traveling 100 miles from a metro area and heading to the beach at 3pm on a Friday versus leaving at 5pm. The drunkeness level at 10pm can be drastically different.

Dozens of journalism professors and working journalists signed an open letter to Fox News heads Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch on Thursday, bashing the network's coverage of the coronavirus pandemic as a "danger to public health."

"Viewers of Fox News, including the president of the United States, have been regularly subjected to misinformation relayed by the network—false statements downplaying the prevalence of COVID-19 and its harms; misleading recommendations of activities that people should undertake to protect themselves and others, including casual recommendations of untested drugs; false assessments of the value of measures urged upon the public by their elected political leadership and public health authorities," the letter reads.

It's pretty obvious.

Conservative media outlets are as guilty as liberal ones. BDKKK seems to ignore the false and intentionally misleading "reporting" that's done by the conservative media. To call out all those media outlets and forget to include one of the worst offenders is intellectually dishonest.

What does all this have to do with the ABC report being demonstrably false?

Absolutely zip squat. It’s contrarian Mark being contrarian.

 Let's use those critical thinking skills here, Tom.

Also, don't fuck up my troll. :tothehand:

And your point is?
His point is the cure is worse than the disease.
Survivor bias

The math isn't that hard. The economy took the hit so your wife or you isn't in the ICU and/or dead.

Let's not conflate stop gap measures with a cure.

Staying at home, social distancing, cancelling Spring 2020 are stop gap measures to slow the spread of a disease that 1) we have never encountered; 2) have zero treatment for; 3) have zero immunity against; and 4) have no cure. We've taken drastic measures for sure.

But what was the alternative? Letting millions more getting infected and put even more strain on our healthcare system for treatment of a disease that we have no vaccine or proven treatment for? Seems like there were two bad options here. :coffee:
