Chris Wallace made an interesting point - if people are still suffering from COVID and/or the economy in November then Trump will lose. High unemployment is politically acceptable in April. Not in November.

Let's not conflate stop gap measures with a cure.

Staying at home, social distancing, cancelling Spring 2020 are stop gap measures to slow the spread of a disease that 1) we have never encountered; 2) have zero treatment for; 3) have zero immunity against; and 4) have no cure. We've taken drastic measures for sure.

But what was the alternative? Letting millions more getting infected and put even more strain on our healthcare system for treatment of a disease that we have no vaccine or proven treatment for? Seems like there were two bad options here.

What strain? Doctors and nurses are being furloughed across the country. With the exception of NYC and a couple other hot spots, this whole thing is a big giant flop. There’s no “strain” on the system. Ventilators are being sent back. Beds are empty. And the economy is in absolute fucking shambles.

There was only ONE bad option here, but it involved ceding freedoms and control to the US government and they made the outcome look bad enough that we took it, hook line and sinker. What happens with the next novel virus? We shutting down the country again?

The healthcare system has come under strain in trying to treat and respond to this as well as the normal healthcare issues. I didn't say it was in every single hospital system nation wide.

And even NYC didn't need all the ventilators. The Javits Center and the hospital ship are reportely only being lightly used. 2 weeks ago when Cuomo said NYC was going to need 30k ventilators? The IHME model says NY State peak day needs 5,008 ventilators., and the ENTIRE COUNTRY only needs 16,524..

The entire country apparently had 30k generators at the start of this thing. According to press conference a couple days ago already had the 1st delivery of GM made ventilators, and by the end of June will have 110k new ventilators from all these companies making them. Going to be swimming in ventilators..
