Of course, my first reaction to seeing the oil markets were "Crap, that would suck to be in a business impacted by that today - I sure hope no one I know is in that predicament (I'm a ChemE grad so I do know folks in the oil or related industries) - I hope they're going to be okay".
But hey, I guess laughing at people's destruction of livelihoods is an option as well.

You were wrong about DEFCON about a week later. Were you also wrong about something on April 7?
Admit it, 89. You hate it. You hate losing at golf and board games. You hate it when your beloved Caps and Nats lose. You really hate being wrong on a FB message board.

Not all of that is true. I hate winning $5 at golf because winners buy drinks and you end up losing.Ivytalk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 6:47 pmYou were wrong about DEFCON about a week later. Were you also wrong about something on April 7?

Japanese folks are crazy when it comes to HIO's. They buy all their friends gifts. When I was in the biz we had quite a few Japanese members and the normal gift was getting dozens and dozens of balls custom with their name and date of the HIO and they'd give out sleeves of balls. They always bought the most expensive ball Titleist would make (at that time Professionals), so it added up quickly.
However, we have a standing rule that if somebody gets a HIO in our regular Friday group, they get $50 from every one of our guys playing that day.

I almost had a hole in one at disc golf. Would've cost me about $30 to buy everyone a drink.89Hen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:33 amCAA Flagship wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:25 am

A hole in one at my club costs you about $1000. You buy everyone at the club a drink and word spreads and people will actually come out to get a drink. I did that right before the shutdown when a buddy had one. If you have "insurance" you get about $700 from the club, but it comes in the form of golf shop credit, so you're still out the $1000 on your bill.

Shouldn't it be the other way around? You earn an achievement and everyone rewards you with a drink.89Hen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:33 amCAA Flagship wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:25 am

Another way to look at it would be it’s like expecting all your friends to pay for your 40th and 50th birthday celebration.
I made double eagle when I was 21, playing with a college teammate and two retired wheat farmers with a 6:30 am tee time.
It costs me something like $4.25 for a pitcher of bud light and was my introduction to AM Ale.

The US has been getting throttled tooSeattleGriz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:35 amWell, I sure do enjoy my internet, while Europe has to throttle.
Yes in France the avg. cost for 100 Mbps is approximately $35 in the US the average cost is $75
but I'm sure you wanted to make some kind of "point" so please do
If you're interested in the different types of throttling I can help you
go to fast.com and post your stats

I'll have to go to Fast.com later, because I am currently working from home while the rest of my family streams Netflix in HD, while Europe has had to go to SD.Chizzang wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:42 amThe US has been getting throttled tooSeattleGriz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:35 am

Thank goodness for throttling where appropriate, so we can work and play at the same time.

Change the Netflix settings to SD and save that bandwidth for critical services.SeattleGriz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 10:03 amI'll have to go to Fast.com later, because I am currently working from home while the rest of my family streams Netflix in HD, while Europe has had to go to SD.Chizzang wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:42 am
