You can't swing a dead cat down here without finding a local microbrew. But failing that, I try and find a Guinness, Sam Adams or an amber. Drink lots of Shiner & Zeigenbock.
I drank some Shiner Bock back in the day. Not bad.

I agree with this but I would argue that your world view is shaped by your experience and a woman's or African American's experience is going to be different than a white male's. Ideally, the needs and priorities of women and minorities should be considered when crafting legislation like this.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

I would disagree with that. They are not going to be different in any way that matters.

Lives and public health are at stake with health care policy. I want expertise and smarts and meticulous planning, not "diversity". I'm not saying what we have here is a dream team by any means, but what it lacks is not "diversity".

You think women's healthcare and men's healthcare would not be different in any way that matters? :?

No...

I clearly said experiences and not health care itself.

Sheesh, why don't we just ban men from becoming OB/GYNs?

Well, when you laugh at and dismiss the American electorate then I'm not sure what you think the next steps should be in terms of fixing what you think the problems are. Are you suggesting we take away the vote and have some types of committees pick the representation in government? Sure, I'd agree with you that the American electorate, taken as a whole, is pretty dim-witted, but what other way of governing are you proposing that doesn't involve that electorate? :coffee:
I didn't propose any other way to govern. Where'd I say that? I'm just laughing at the American electorate. We are lazy, click-bait fueled, low information/partisan voters. We talk about how our congressional leaders don't listen to us, act in our best interest and give them a 74% disapproval rating then we turn around and re-elect them ~90% of the time.

Citizens United concerned funding of campaigns. At no time did it supersede the actual casting of ballots. You and Ibanez are on the same track, though, as neither of you seem happy with leaving the vote in the voters hands.

Gannon, you really should stop saying things like that. That's twice in a day. :bad: :bad: I didn't say that. In fact...i'm all for the voters having their voices heard (unlike the DNC).

Nope, no way whatsoever.

21% approval
A new poll finds only one in five people currently support the bill passed last week by House Republicans to replace ObamaCare.

The Quinnipiac University poll of 1,078 voters was taken from May 4-9 and showed disapproval at 56 percent.

The approval was just 21 percent for the American Health Care Act, four points higher than the last survey on the issue.

Twenty-three percent of respondents said they didn't know or couldn't answer the question.

I'm sure it will stink. But CBO scores lack any relevancy anyway, especially on health care. Obamacare was given a good score by the CBO and we should be seeing the cost curve bend downwards by now if that was true. However, with insurers fleeing the exchanges it's clear that isn't sustainable despite the positive view of the CBO score.

Until we move to a single payer system and limit the cost and/or availability of procedures and medicines there won't be a good scoring health bill (well, one scored properly - there's plenty of ways to manipulate a score that doesn't reflect reality, ala Obamacare). Of course, once we limit the cost and/or availability of procedures and medicines I'm sure there'll be other things that crop up to worry about.

CBO score isn't perfect - but it's the least biased sense of a bill we have. At least that I'm aware of. It's certainly better than a report authored by a partisan think tank.

I'm just curious how we are to make informed decisions about massive legislation like this? CBO is bunk. Think tanks are bunk. Media reporting is bunk.

What do you use to form opinions and draw conclusions?
