Europe is vital for defense, deterrence, and global influence. The cost may be high but so is the payoff.

Greenland has niche strategic and resource value. It's lower cost compared but less critical for day-to-day defense.

But trump tells you to think differently so you think differently.

MAQA yahoos haven't just put their spines and gonads on a shelf, they've put their brains there as well. When he tells them to drink the poisoned kool-aid, will they?
Not to mention the MIC will exact its pound of flesh regardless. But that parts ok, right?

Meanwhile, Trump wants to increase defense spending to $1.5 trillion. It’s almost as if we didn’t mind spending all that money on protecting Europe. It was a win-win, right?
Defense wins games

Anyone who thinks manufacturing employment will ever "boom" again in America, even with ever increasing manufacturing activity (which we have been experiencing for decades now) just don't have a clue. Automation has been the trend for at least the past quarter of a century and will certainly continue going forward. We keep making more things in America every year (i.e. manufacturing booms) but we're going to do so without the accompanying increase in workers. If we make stuff here in the US. we'll put the work in to design it so that it requires the minimal amount of workers. None of this is news and none of this should be a shock to anyone paying even the slightest attention.

'They're All Coming Back' Trump Says U.S. 'Golden Age' Will Begin Within 6–12 Months As Foreign Auto Giants Rush In
President Trump says the next chapter of American manufacturing could be its boldest yet — and he's urging the public to get ready for what he calls a "golden age."

Speaking during a White House Christmas reception in Cross Hall, Trump claimed that foreign automakers are racing to shift operations into the United States — not out of generosity, but because of his trade policies. Specifically, he credited tariffs for flipping the script on outsourcing.

"Our car industry…went to Europe, they went to Mexico, Japan — they went all over. They went to South Korea," Trump said. "And now it's just the opposite. They're all coming back. We have an age that's coming up, the likes of which this country has never seen."
The point they're missing or intentionally overlooking is the one you brought up - automation. Manufacturing might come back but it's unlikely to include a large increase in factory jobs. Robot maintenance and similar looks like it might have a bright future though.

Manufacturing has always been here, and it's been growing. But what people feel is that it isn't because the jobs aren't there with it, nor will they be in the future. We're still a manufacturing powerhouse on the global stage, we just do it with a fraction of the people. And yes, Trump would not know that, there's many things he doesn't know.

I disagree with increasing the defense budget by that much, or hardly at all. Instead pull back some from overseas footprint. Personell stationed overseas cost more than stateside.

Put any savings from fraud to deficit & debt reduction.

trump Floats Cancelling 2026 Elections, Then Insists He Won’t
Donald Trump on Tuesday floated the idea of canceling future U.S. elections, elevating a longstanding concern among critics of how he might try to limit threats to his power in his second term.

Trump brought up the idea while speaking to House Republicans at their annual retreat, and then quickly insisted he was not calling for such a move, casting his remarks as a critique of Democrats rather than a proposal. “They have the worst policy,” he said in his remarks at the Kennedy Center to about 70 House Republicans. “How we have to even run against these people—I won’t say cancel the election, they should cancel the election, because the fake news would say, ‘He wants the elections canceled. He’s a dictator.’ They always call me a dictator.”
...
Federal law leaves no room for a president to cancel or postpone congressional elections. The timing of federal elections is set by Congress, and the administration of elections is carried out by the states, with oversight by Congress and the courts. Even under emergencies such as war or natural disaster, there is no clear legal mechanism for a president to unilaterally suspend national elections.

But that hasn’t stopped Trump from repeatedly flirting with the idea, which has alarmed Democrats and voting rights advocates.
He's trolling and if he isn't, doing so would be impeachable and probably create a constitutional crisis.

With Trump’s laser like military operations in Iraq and Venezuela involving almost no US boots on the ground, it will be interesting to see how the military reacts and downsizes in the coming decades. Less active duty live bodies augmented by more reserves would be my guess.

Nobody in the military is cost conscious with government money, you have to spend it if you got it

I didn’t even mention AI robots…. Will they demand 30 days leave a year or else…

Nullification would be the closer historical equivalent. John C Calhoun would agree with that.

I'm not allowed to use a little hyperbole/trolling?

The larger point is that despite his rhetoric, trump is tearing America apart not Making it Great Again.

Demonizing and pushing blue states to the brink might be good for trump's ego but it is not good for the long term health of the country.

We might not come fully apart but IMO we're closer to it than we've been in my adult lifetime. Thank you donald trump.

TDS is the biggest problem

25 years ago, everybody would be shocked by the mere mention of a “sanctuary city” or local governments working against federal agencies…. The list is long

You helped create Donald and you ignore the stupidity of morons like Tim Walz

Anyway, all of you self-appointed geniuses were dead wrong on the economy and tariffs

inflation is going down. Unemployment is going down.

Look how the fourth estate, a lying sack of shit bags, MSNBC and CNN frame the economy and inflation under Biden and Trump…. The problem is, some people actually believe it.
