Yep. I was wrong. Though Putin would take the part of Ukraine it wants through more of a slowburn infiltration/propaganda style. But I mean the weakest and most mentally frail POTUS in modern history is in power so now's the best time to grab what you want with brute force.

Wonder when China makes its move to eat Taiwan?

And I thought electing Biden was supposed to stop these kinds of actions abroad?
Same here, way off as well. Don't know shit about shit apparently.

I will say my wife was telling me about a Putin article where the author said Putin was nuts. Wanted old Russia territory back. Seems that guy was right.
To think...I began this thread right around 8 years ago to the day!

I know you couldn't share any info (if you're receiving much at all) but given your position, I would love to see what you're seeing. You're saying the current military operations are NOT indicative of taking the capital? If so - I can agree with that. From my very amateur POV, the current strikes are softening the ground and acquiring strategic military and civilian targets (airport, energy plant, sea ports)

If we're to believe all the media reports, the targets have been military and/or strategic like cities, ports and airports ( I believe I heard on the BBC there was some collateral damage, i.e. condos have been struck by missiles). Again - if we're to believe the reports. Russia went in...guns blazing.

I was responding specifically to the map graphic and the suggestion that strikes as far as western Ukraine necessarily meant an invasion of the whole country. I was making a small point only. It is increasingly obvious that the Russian intent is in fact to at least take Kyiv.

Unrelated- there have been lots of suggestions over the last several months about Putin’s health, both physical and mental. This article is the latest Ive seen in open source-

^ those rumors have been circulating in Russia as well. and he definitely seems off.

also super anecdotal, but i think his support has been showing chinks domestically for the first time. father in law had always been a pretty strong Putin and United Russia defender the whole time I've known him. that had changed significantly on my last visit there in mid-December to early January. 'criminal' / 'corrupt' / etc. all things i had previously called him. and all whispered very quietly in his kitchen so neighbors couldn't overhear. :?

WaPo is saying China was caught flat footed by this. That’s alarming and further evidence that Putin may have gone off the deep end

Since this article mentions both Ukraine and Putin I thought I would through it here. I am sure the people in Ukraine are comforted by Kerry's remarks.

To say the current administration is a rudderless ship is to imply they had a rudder in the first place. :ohno:

Vladimir Putin just launched the largest war of aggression in Europe since Adolf Hitler, and the official position of the Biden administration is that climate emissions is a more pressing issue that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. It’s almost impossible to overstate how vacuous this position is. While every government in Europe is speaking out on the need to stand with Ukraine, Biden’s closest foreign-policy advisor is publicly pumping up Putin as a partner.

Those are kind of minor in the grand scheme of things as compared with the current Anchluss of Ukraine, no? We're seeing a sovereign nation being gobbled up here. Syria was, at the end of the day, an internal civil war (and an ugly one at that). Cyber attacks didn't change any political boundaries on a map.

Kerry is part of a long list of Presidential election losers who, in retrospect, we were very lucky to avoid electing. His giving an interview like this just confirms what we already knew, he's a terrible politician/leader.

Doesn't matter. They are part of a pattern of aggression that went unchecked. Of course Putin was going to invade. All the years of cyber attacks, activity in Crimea, support of those 2 regions when unchecked for nearly 10 years. All the while under sanctions.

Putin's in his own backyard and there aren't any threats any President could make short of nuclear war that would have changed any of the outcomes of that pattern of agression or that will keep him from doing his thing in that area going forward. Today's sanctions aren't likely to have any more effect than any of the previous ones.

No

That's why the weak president dropped meaningless sanctions while trying to protect his family fortune in Ukraine.

I know I am in the minority here but this is not US business in any way. We shouldn't be involved. I voted for Biden and admit I was lied to and embarrassed to no end.

Now that this invasion has happened I hope Putin finishes it and steals all Bidens money
