BDKJMU wrote:Well, the US giving Pakistan 3.5 billion a yr in aid in a country with a GDP of about 175 billion is about 2% of their GDP.

That would be the same as Mexico giving the US annually about 300 billion dollars, 2% of an about 15 trillion GDP.

If a wealthy Mexcio was giving a 3rd World shithole US 2% of GDP a yr in aid and the US had hiding in their midst a terrorist who killed 3000 Mexicans, and the Mexicans violated our sovereignty to kill him, no Americans were killed, but Mexico lost a top secret chopper in the process, then the US certainly shouldn't refuse to return one of their toys, considering the US was sucking off the Mexican tit to the tune of 2% of their GDP and was risking losing that if the US didn't return the Mexican chopper.

Cluck that is why people just think that they should hand over that helicopter.
Then people are stupid. Really stupid.

Last time I checked, wishful thinking is not a good way to conduct foreign policy...nor is it helpful to believe that everyone is in some sing-a-long happy trails camp for good guys.

The funny part is that people get upset when our government/politicians are bought with dollars, but we seem to want, and even expect, other government's officials, especially the most corrupt of them, to play fair and do as we say. :dunce:

Sit, boy...roll over! Bad dog.

As I said on another site, I don't get how people just think that they should hand over that helicopter.

If Mexico covertly violated our airspace and sent warbirds and troops into a compound 100 miles from Washington, shot a few people, then took one away for burial at sea, how would you, as an American, feel about giving Mexico back one of its toys?
Considering that Mexico's only contribution to us is millions of illegal immigrants (and not billions of dollars) I'd say the situation is a little different.

I think we make our continued financial support of Pakistan contingent on a number of things, to include the immediate return of our bling.

Kind of funny to listen to. Surely we don't expect to use our toys on missions like this and not lose one occasionally?

We just need to get real cozy with our new bffs in India and show the Pakistanis how both ends against the middle can be a game for everybody.

Of course we are going to lose them from time to time. We should expect our "allies" (and I use that term loosely) to play ball.

Agreed on India.

As for your second question, not the point.

We know the Pakistanis and the Saudis are not our friends, always have. How we can expect the Pakis to not sell China the helicopter when we sat still for them selling nuclear technology to North Korea?

Which brings us back to the multiple billions we give the Pakistanis in return for nothing more than their cooperation. What else is that money paying for? Oil?

I was just thinking that if things get bad enough to where some Americans decide to go back to picking tomatoes, whoever is in the oval office at that time will claim credit for the declining unemployment rate, as well as job creation.

Which would be OK except that the farmers feel entitled to their welfare and the unemployed folks need a ride to the fields.

No worries. John Kerry negotiated the return of the copter to US. :notworthy: :notworthy:
Pakistan will return the pieces of the secret U.S. helicopter that went down during the operation that killed Osama bin Laden early this month, Senator John Kerry told reporters today.

Kerry, chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said the chopper's wreckage -- which aviation experts said was the first public evidence of a secret U.S. stealth Blackhawk program -- would be handed over to American officials Tuesday. Kerry (D-Mass.) met with senior Pakistani civilian and military officials today in Islamabad in hopes of improving relations between the two countries following America's unilateral incursion into Pakistan to kill the al Qaeda leader on May 1.

Following the operation, U.S. officials asked Pakistan for the wreckage back, but Pakistan had not publicly agreed until Kerry's visit. One Pakistani official told ABC News last week the Chinese were "very interested" in seeing the remains of the helicopter. Another Pakistani official said then that the Pakistan government "might let them [the Chinese] take a look."

All hail John Kerry for negotiating the return of the tail section of the helicopter almost 20 days after the raid...after China got everything they wanted off of it...and 2+ weeks after the Pakistanis already said they would return it. :notworthy:

Screw Pakistan.

Tired of their bullshit in the face of huge american foreign aid and tired of their hygenically-challenged taxicab drivers providing white-knuckle rides to and from airports.

Besides, Indian food rocks. Let's make new friends and be done with it.
