No, but surprisingly you don't see the issue a lot going into NYC. There used to be a guy on the bus I took for a year that was huge, but still didn't take up two seats. He did have to turn sideways to get down the aisle though.Rob Iola wrote:Do they charge extra for people who take up 2 seats?danefan wrote:
You may have spoken to people who commute from South or Central NJ.
From the more populated areas in the NJ area - North Jersey (Bergen County) and Southern NY (Rockland and Orange County) - there is no single-seat option into NYC via train. Meaning you have a change-over in Secaucus Junction.
These trains in from Secaucus are constantly delayed due to track issues (old age) and Amtrak preference (NJ transit leases space on the tracks but has to give way to all Amtrak trains). Not to mention they are standing room only. And I wouldn't exactly call them cheap options. Monthly tickets can run upwards of $500 per month (avg is probably around $250-300) and that does not count parking at stations.
The one-seat issue, over crowding and delay/preference issues would have all been solved with the new tunnels.
And no its not India. But since when are third-world countries are measuring stick?

Well if you guys don't want Christie, we'll gladly trade him for the POS governor we have now in Tom Corbett.
Corbett's latest - he's so gung ho on keeping a campaign promise to not raise taxes, he just shifts the burden on the taxpayers from not paying more state tax, but paying more local tax.
How? Simple - Corbett cut hundreds of millions from school budgets last year. Well with decreased funding from Harrisburg, what happens throughout the state, well 2 things - 1) sharp tuition increases at already the highest in-state cost universities in the country and 2) local school boards increase tax rates. So when people complain about their taxes going up Corbett's answer is to blame the school boards & tells residents to start going to more local school board meetings.
Yea, asswipe, we get it, you just shift the problem downstream...
I only heard the same idea a million times in these presidential debates - give it to the states to decide, we all still bend over & take it up the shitter in the end.

I've got news for you. Christie did EXACTLY the same thing with NJ taxes.....but he can always claim HE didn't raise anyone's taxes.bluehenbillk wrote:Well if you guys don't want Christie, we'll gladly trade him for the POS governor we have now in Tom Corbett.

Well, if someone responded to the question I asked I missed it. I think the saddest thing about this thread is that people assume the GAO is credible. I have dealt with the GAO twice. Been involved in two of its investigations or assessments or whatever you want to call them. And I think it's a shame that the general public assigns the entity as much credibility as it does. Basically, someone in Congress asks the GAO to do an investigation to support the position the someone wants to take. Then the GAO goes out and does it. It is not an objective, credible process. It gives whoever asked it to do the assessment the answer they want.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
