1) Yes. A relative of mine who is Mormon and also happens to be the winningest basketball coach in NC.
2) Yes. The State Department is chock full of them. They catch the bug on their overseas missions.
3) Yes. Many times. I find them to be politically diverse- the biggest liberal and the biggest conservative I ever met were both Mormon.
4) No, but I bought a car from a Mormon, does that count?

Why the boner for the Mormons? I've found them to be the least assholeyish group out of all the groups that believe in the bearded grandpa in the sky.

Does this have something to do with Romney being considered for SecState?

Nope,
and I completely agree...
They are wonderful people (in a general sense)

Correction However:
1) They are the lease politically diverse group of white people in America
2) Of the "women are cattle" organizations they are the nicest about it

I have had the good fortune of knowing many Mormon families
Went to college 2 years with Holly and Brooke Johnston - we were best damn friends
Holly went on to become Holly Mendenhall wife of Bronco Mendenhall the BYU football coach
Brooke went on to run a dude ranch and now she sells ranches as some kind of real estate broker

I could write a book about those two girls
and their family and their religion
So yeah, you know what you think you know about Mormans...and that is all you know.

I regularly speak with a neighbor, and we ALWAYS talk about politics. He is one of the few people around here that weren't pvssies for Hillary, and he is one of the few that will actually speak about political things like an adult. His local church was very divided regarding this past election. And, my BIL's friend out in Indiana was certainly not on the same page as my neighbor. So, your theory that you know everything about Mormons has been debunked. What you should do about it is to go to CID's previous posts, Bloomington, IN, my local place of worship, and the other peeps that other posters have mentioned, and tell those damned (at least in the Christian sense) people that you do not like them not agreeing with you about what you think about them.

I'm sure, like the rest of us, they'll be thrilled to nod their heads and say the equivalent of, Bless your little heart."

I'm going to ask my neighbor what their BYLH equivalent is.

Besides you being completely full of sh!t on this
You're completely full of sh!t on this

Mormons are THE least politically diverse group of white people in America (The End)

You can make up all the pretend stories you want about imaginary neighbors
There are Mormons by the tens of thousands out here

:coffee:

And they are not a complex diverse block
and they will proudly announce that - its no secret
its a source of pride

What is entertaining is YOU doubling down on something you know nothing about

Whoa, I am shocked, literally shocked (stuck my finger in an electrical socket upon reading this) that Chizz started what seemed like a completely innocuous thread with no ulterior motive, and then at the end of it he came out and painted all Mormons with some stereotypical "they're all white conservatives infected with groupthink" hate-rant. Who would've guess that's where he was heading with all of this??? 8-)

You know why I think you find Mormons so interesting, Chizz?

As a group they are by and large financially successful and for the most part pretty smart as well and yet their denominations have some of the most unusual and (you might say) strangest tenets of any denomination.

They (and you might say Catholics as well) are a crack in the idea that the religious are ignorant and/or stupid crowd.

Personally, I don't understand why you don't just do the "well, that stuff Mormons believe is really weird, but is it any weirder than thinking a virgin had a baby who grew up to be a hippie carpenter who healed the sick and walked on water and had to suffer to save us from some force so terrible that even an infallible and all-powerful God can't do anything else to stop it" thing.

Absolutely ^
I do find them collectively fascinating
To me it's Catholicism x 2 in the illogically ridiculous category

Mormons (almost) entirely buy into the Catholic doctrine
Yet add two more levels of absurdity

And yet - as you make note of - they are collectively wonderful
Some of the sweetest kindest people you'd ever hope to meet
and frequently brilliant

And yet here we are....
The Book of Mormon is like a comic book of absurdities

In fact:
You could take a random comic book out of a stack of comic books
and easily find more believable gibberish and outlandish claims in the comic book than the book of Mormon

Chizz keeps drowning in his own mess.

I was going to say that BOTH of the Muslins I mentioned drink...as did several of my neighbor's guests.

Seems as if the WCb Mormans that Chizz knows are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too indoctrinated...and, of course, they ALL march lock step together into the brave world of Mormranism.

Chizz be like: Homie, why be there Muslins drinking beer and reading porn...they are strict followers of Allah. :dunce:

From Chizzy's own link:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/125021/mormo ... group.aspx

"PRINCETON, NJ -- Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons, are the most conservative major religious group in the country, with 59% identifying as conservative, 31% as moderate, and 8% as liberal."

31% moderate...8% liberal. Only 59% call themselves conservative.

Yeah, that's a real monolithic approach.

Now, how many of those folks that identified themselves as conservative actually follow all of the conservative script? :suspicious:

Damn...seems there is a while world of Morans out there that have no idea that Chizzy thinks they are doing things incorrectly. They must be found, and taught to adhere to the mandate set by open minded Chizzy.

Hey Chiz...come on out to the East Coast and I will introduce you to my non-existent neighbor. Then I will ask you what religion you believe in when something you don't believes exists tells you to your face that he does.

We can hit up my BIL's friend on the way back. You get to buy all the rounds though...you know, since they all don't drink.

Chizz's narrow mind exposed...again. Cripes, no wonder you bombed out of Harvard...you simply can't open your mind to another reality. Maybe you and JSO should get together...lots of things you guys can deny exist.

And the funniest part is that when faced with reality, you go into a hole and claim everyone else is lying.
