They are also hinting that the U.S. will decapitate the NK leadership with air power, then China will launch an invasion of NK.

Those 150k Chinese soldiers on the Yalu ain't there to process NK refugees.
I was referring to your post and his reply to it. Cit's original comment isn't a likely scenario- China can manipulate North Korea in many ways without resorting to military action. There would need to be an imminent threat of a nuclear exchange on the peninsula, and we are nowhere near that

We only have 19 in Iowa that meet that number.
Of those 19 about 8 of them fall into the same "metro" or twin city style set up with another city on that list. Another 7 are just outside of that metro (within an hour or so)

There are only 4 on that list that are "stand alone" cities.
While the clueless west coast fags pontificate...

Delaware has three cities (Wilmington, Newark, Dover) over 25,000.

Slower Delaware (Sussex County) has zero cities over 10,000.* I live in the metropolis of Slower DE with a whopping 9,559.

*Rehoboth is the one deceiving stat on that list. Although the year-round residency is listed as 1,327 I'd guess the population of Rehoboth/Dewey/Lewes and all rentals within 15 min drive to the beach is closer to 100,000 on a summer weekend.
lol... that's 16 times larger than the nearest town to where I live.

Well, technically, the nearest "town" to where I live has about 10 people (see the MOAB thread). I'm part of the zip code of the city of 9,000 but not in the city limits.

Also, my state has one area code and we still have numbers-only license plates with only six digits. My parents have plates 2909 and 3010 which they're passing down to my sister and me.

The solar activity thing concerns me as well. In fact I've thought about trying to store water and non perishable food sufficient to sustain myself and those close to me for three months because when you read about the potential at places like http://science.howstuffworks.com/solar- ... onics2.htm it creates the impression that it could be total chaos for a long time if you're in the wrong place. But then I think that if it did happen people would be very desperate and figure out that you have stuff so it might not matter.

I also have a hard time assessing the risk that you could actually find yourself in a situation where you'd need to have stored food and water in order to survive.

Start thinking about how you're going to get from place to place because anything solid state (I.e., engines) won't run, so you and 95% of Americans will be on foot...

I have access to an old Ford Falcon in the NoVa area. It only needs to get me and the fam to Lynchburg or Danville and then my final destination is walking distance. I even have back roads plotted out so as to stay off main highways. If we had to we could walk the whole thing but it would take a couple weeks. I have enough power bars to get us through if needs be. After that, gas and cars will be unnecessary

Then there's a mule plow at home

It would be slim pickings for the first six months, but once we get through the first six or so we'd be good. Might have to eat a dog or two to get through until the first crops come in after the pre-positioned rations run out, because local game will be over hunted after a few months

I also learned recently about hiding crops by growing them in the woods, etc. My area is sparsely populated but the RDU area will dump out into it so growing food will need to be done carefully that way until the population thins out. My neighborhood consists of a few small farmers, and banded together we could easily defend our area

I'm continually gaming this thing out in my head. It's a good thought exercise even if it never happens (and probably won't)

Food is going to be currency. You can't have it out in the open. It'll have to be hidden and protected. Banding together is smart (pull together resources and share the burden).

That's not exactly true. I've done plenty of reading and there's nothing to suggest that an EMP or solar flare will render automobiles useless. There are too many variables (distance from explosion, is the vehicle outside, in a parking garage, in your garage at home, etc...) The government did a test a while ago, and although it was poorly done, the vehicles restarted and ran following a simulated EMP. Many of the cars just glided to a stop but the driver was able to restart it and continue on.

The consensus is still out but there's growing evidence to suggest vehicles, on the whole, will be just fine. And think about it, why not? The electronics are heavily shielded..more so than the electronics on your fridge or smart phone.

Even if many or most cars continue to function, we will still be in a dire situation because our grid structure is definitely vulnerable. Scientists have estimated that the solar flare in 1859 (Carrington event) would have fried all unshielded electronics on the exposed side of the earth. It was magnitudes larger than any expected man-made EMP events. Our grid is based on a series of large transformers, for which we have no backups. If they get fried its lights out for 6 months to a year at best.

But maybe you'll be able to drive your Lexus to the empty looted Trader Joes

The point, which you are avoiding, is that if the event of an EMP, you may be able to get someplace safe in a vehicle.

That said, the streets will be chaos and i'll be running people over trying to get to my kid.

I'm not worried much about it unless Lil Kim makes a really stupid move. We won't go preemptive because of the immediate artillery backlash that Seoul would suffer. Kim knows that any provocation will be met with a technological retaliation the NoKo's simply can't counter. The carrier groups are there for a show of force only IMO.
Even though I don't believe the Chinese are NoKo's handlers as much as we'd like to believe, I still think they're the linchpin to deescalating tensions. The NoKo's haven't responded well to sanctions and love to sabre rattle as much as the next guy despite possessing outdated equipment. Trump comes off as just unstable enough to get Kimmie nervous - hopefully that doesn't turn into an itchy trigger finger, because the results for the peninsula would be devastating.
