I know he derided critics as unpatriotic and could be considered a nationalist (sound familiar?) but a fascist?
So did the United States.css75 wrote:Ibanez wrote: Wait, Eva Peron was a Nazi sympathizer? Her husbands government allowed Nazi scientists into the country much for the same reason the Americans did. Well, Peron did bring in a lot of Nazis after WWII.

And America did not? C'mon baldy. Peron was hardly a saint but his government didn't really do anything America didn't. We both gave Nazi's safe haven. There were ratlines to the US as well, not just Argentina. There was a large German population in Argentina before Peron. Yes, Peron allowed Nazi's to reside in the country. He also openly accepted Jews.Baldy wrote:"Nazi scientists"...like Josef Mengele and Adolf Eichmann?Ibanez wrote: Wait, Eva Peron was a Nazi sympathizer? The Perons provided safe haven to escaping Nazis after the war, and as payment, enriched themselves with treasures the Nazis appropriated from the Jews who were condemned to concentration camps.
She's still an amazing Social Justice Warrior, though.

Evita isn't the socialist boogeyman you think she is.
Hey, if officials at the highest levels of our government inside the White House provided safe haven for war criminals in return for the riches seized from Jews who were condemned to the gas chambers, please do tell. Otherwise, you're just providing false equivalencies.Ibanez wrote:And America did not? C'mon baldy. Peron was hardly a saint but his government didn't really do anything America didn't. You are talking about Von Braun, Mark - he was the guy who benefitted from slave labor at Peenemunde .... and we did profit from him- he put us on the moon that’s for sureIbanez wrote:And America did not? They actively provided asylum to Nazi war criminals throughout the postwar period
There was an actual Bund in Buenos Aires - full on Nazis sieg heil-ing in beer halls with the full protection of the Peronistas
You might want to check your history when it comes to Juan and Eva - calling them Nazi sympathizers is kind

I’m not sure Peron was an ideological Nazi. If he were, then he didn’t get the memo on the Final Solution. I’m trying to recall the Jewish organization that Peron set up...OIA? Something like that.CID1990 wrote:You are talking about Von Braun, Mark - he was the guy who benefitted from slave labor at Peenemunde .... and we did profit from him- he put us on the moon that’s for sureIbanez wrote: And America did not? But if we want to split hairs here - we used Nazi scientists to keep ahead of the Soviets during the Cold War. The Perons used them for personal enrichment, and they also subscribed to the whole master race schtick. Von Braun wasnt sieg heiling in beer halls on the American nickel. He also wasn’t an ideological Nazi (he wasn’t a saint either/ but he wasn’t an ideological Nazi, either)
He was also dogged during his life in the US by Jewish accountability groups. Those did not exist in Argentina because they would have been disappeared

Come on, trying to equate what we did with Nazi scientists and what Argentina did with Nazi refugees is significantly different. Not really a hill to die on here.Ibanez wrote:We had our own bund.CID1990 wrote:

I believe the implication is that the Perons were Nazi sympathizers and that glorifying Evita was something AOC probably wouldn’t do if her knowledge of the woman extended beyond the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. Or maybe she would anyway... who knowsIbanez wrote:I’m not sure Peron was an ideological Nazi. If he were, then he didn’t get the memo on the Final Solution. Listen - Peron was no saint. Socialist for sure and accepted Nazis into a country that already had a heavy German population. I can concede the nazi sympathies.
But let’s not assume we’re so Star-Spangeled pure that we didn’t benefit from Nazis or do some seriously awful ****.
