Farming is a strategic industry. Food importers are at a strategic disadvantage if shipping is disrupted. I would go further and state that having distributed food production is to our strategic advantage.

Yeah, if they can't sell them... there isn't enough storage space so they plow them back into the fields.

If they're having no trouble selling them... what have the bailouts been for? Just a pure handout?

These articles are all from last year's harvest. Harvest time is just now (at least here in central Illinois). I suspect it will be similar this year. But, the bailouts were for last year's crop.
