Have we argued about the hospitalization metric yet?

Yes. Ganny has pointed it out several times.

What's this as a percentage of their total capacity?

Well, according to the link below, Texas has 20,000 coronavirus beds.

What would the total deaths and hospital bed occupancy rates have been like without the lockdowns?

First of all, we had no information, a quick spreading virus, and a massive amount of deaths (which continue).

Second, the article says that this is preliminary research.

Third, the WHO says more research needs to be done on presymptomatic people (those who are asymptomatic and turn symptomatic).

Fourth, the WHO is still recommending social distancing and masks until things get figured out.

How many were saved via lockdown?

There are actually studies and numbers out there now. Fairly soft science in many regards but if you’re supreme ruler, what death total is tolerable? What economic impacts due to lost productivity and fear of infection are tolerable?

Just like there are some soft studies the other way when one takes a holistic approach. Both are fair questions but they skirt dangerously close to "What if" territory and must be looked at with a critical eye. That said, there is good data both ways from the states and countries that followed different methods of containment or not that can be analyzed. What we know for sure is that there is no one size fits all approach, that the infection rate is much lower than initially thought, and the WHO is compromised by China.

If I were a supreme ruler, you wouldn't be asking those questions. And you would be cheering for the Bison.

Well, the article says coronavirus beds were able to be increased 142% due to elective procedures no longer being performed.

Texas started back to elective procedures in mid-April. So, I would assume it's down. How much? I don't know.

UNI and Iowa State announced that they will start fall classes one week early - August 17 and the semester will be done on November 25th. They will have classes on Labor Day.

I think that's the consensus right now for most schools - hearing more and more are going that direction.

But that could be reverted back to COVID patients within a week.
I'm just providing some info. I'm not minimizing the hospitalization numbers you provided. Those are numbers worth monitoring IMO. They are probably very accurate and translate to policy action much more than "new cases".

Thanksgiving is late this year so ending the semester, or at least ending on-campus instruction and moving to online for the remainder of the semester, is a no-brainer.

New cases drive those numbers as well unless the virus decides on its own to not be deadly or incapacitating.

To a far lesser degree. It depends on who has the virus.
They aren't going to stop elective surgeries at this point unless the hospitalization numbers approach X% of capacity.

Yes. The Cowboys use them on Sunday's during football season.
